Research on Crystallization of Biomacromolecules

The crystallization of biomolecules is crucial in establishing modern biochemistry and biology. Over the past few decades, the use of X-ray crystallography to determine the three-dimensional structures of biomolecules has provided strong support for the advancement of life sciences as well as the development of AlphaFold. With the breakthroughs in fermentation technology, crystallization, as an efficient and low-cost purification method, has also garnered significant attention in the field of biomacromolecule purification. Furthermore, crystallization has emerged as a powerful strategy in regulating the structure and physicochemical properties of biomaterials to meet specific therapeutic requirements.

The journey towards successful biomolecular crystallization is often challenging due to the complexity and sensitivity of these macromolecules. Recent advancements in techniques have greatly expanded the possibilities for obtaining crystals with desired quality. Moreover, computational methods are increasingly being employed to predict potential crystallization conditions, offering a complementary approach to experimental crystallization.

This Special Issue on "Research on Crystallization of Biomacromolecules" aims to showcase the latest research findings and innovative methodologies that advance our understanding of biomolecular crystallization. We welcome contributions that highlight the challenges and triumphs in this field, as well as those that propose new strategies for enhancing biomolecular crystallization.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Crystals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
