Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Building on the success of Volume 1, “Using ChatGPT in Language Learning,” we are excited to announce the launch of a second Special Issue, titled “Using Generative AI (GenAI) in Language Learning and Teaching.” In this new volume, we seek to expand and deepen the conversation around how GenAI is reshaping language education—bringing about both transformative possibilities and important challenges.
As GenAI tools become increasingly embedded in educational settings, they offer fresh opportunities for innovation in language learning while also raising questions about ethics, pedagogy, and accessibility. Given this, we welcome contributions that explore how educators and learners engage with GenAI tools effectively, creatively, and responsibly.
We welcome submissions that investigate GenAI’s role in areas such as the following:
- Enhancing language skills through classroom, extracurricular, or informal learning activities;
- Improving learner outcomes in fluency, proficiency, and emotional engagement;
- Designing GenAI-supported activities, including feedback systems, voice interaction, animation, and gamification;
- Empowering teachers to integrate GenAI into curricula;
- Identifying barriers faced by educators and learners in adopting GenAI;
- Supporting minority language acquisition and learning in the Global South;
- Navigating ethical concerns and emotional dimensions of GenAI use;
- Understanding limitations and challenges in GenAI-supported language learning.
We are particularly interested in empirical studies that provide data-driven insights, as well as theoretical papers that reflect on the broader implications of GenAI in language education.
