Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electronics play a major role in the modern world, serving as a key tool in the realization of the digital transformation, the sustainable development of the economy and societies, and the green transition. In this sense, the main highlights of this Special Issue are as follows:

  • Digital transformation: Electronics are at the heart of the development of smart devices, communication technologies and information systems. This includes everything from mobile phones and computers to complex server systems and cloud solutions. The digital transformation, powered by electronics, enables businesses and societies to become more efficient, flexible and connected;
  • Sustainable development: Electronics also aid in sustainable development by improving the energy efficiency of various devices and systems. For example, LED lighting and smart thermostats help reduce energy consumption. In addition, the development of e-waste processing and recycling technologies is helping to reduce waste and pollution;
  • Green transition: Electronics are a critical component in the green transition, supporting the development and deployment of renewable energy technologies such as solar panels, fuel cells and wind turbines. Batteries and other forms of energy storage, which are vital to the rational use of the energy flow from renewable sources, are also critically dependent on advances in electronics;
  • Transportation Innovation: Electronics are aiding in the development of cleaner and more efficient means of transportation, such as electric and hybrid cars. Intelligent traffic management systems and autonomous vehicles rely on sophisticated electronics to reduce congestion and emissions;
  • Smart agriculture and resource management: Electronics support the development of smart solutions in agriculture, such as ecological farming systems that optimize the use of water and fertilizers. This leads to more sustainable and efficient agricultural production.

In summary, electronics are fundamental to today's digital transformation, sustainable development and green transition efforts, offering solutions and opportunities to overcome challenges related to today's environmental and social needs.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
