Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The shared autonomous electric vehicles (SAEV), the integration of car-sharing, autonomous technology, and electrification, are anticipated to be popular choices for future urban travel. They can not only provide more flexible on-demand services but also improve traffic efficiency, enhance traffic safety, and reduce traffic congestion, energy consumption, and emissions. Although these new technological changes have been promoted internationally, there are still many challenges. Currently, the development of the SAEV system is not mature. How to optimize the operation strategy of SAEV should also be further studied. Additionally, the acceptability of SAEV by travelers is still uncertain. How to make people more willing to adopt SAEV and the overall benefits of SAEV should be further assessed. While the rapid advances in data analytics and artificial intelligence provide new opportunities to improve the performance of the SAEV systems and gain more insights into the impacts of SAEV.

Facing the above challenges and opportunities, this Special Issue aims to solicit high-quality research on shared vehicles, autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, and their combinations (i.e., SAEV). This Special Issue calls for novel contributions and cutting-edge research using data analytics and artificial intelligence technologies to address challenges in this growing field. We particularly welcome high-quality, original research that covers a wide range of topics related to characteristics, optimization, impacts, and prediction of the above technologies to guide industry investments and government decision-making for the transition towards electrification, automation, and shared mobility.

Potential topics to be covered:

Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Data-driven approaches in the characterization of shared mobility, autonomous vehicles, and electric vehicles;
  • Optimization of shared mobility, autonomous vehicles, and electric vehicles using artificial intelligence;
  • Potential impacts of shared mobility, autonomous vehicles, and electric vehicles on car ownership, traffic congestion, energy consumption, environment, etc;
  • Factors influencing users’ willingness to adopt shared mobility, autonomous vehicles, and electric vehicles;
  • Demand prediction of shared mobility, autonomous vehicles, and electric vehicles using data analytics and artificial intelligence.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
