Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The contemporary world, driven by ongoing societal and civilizational progress, faces numerous challenges. These challenges include the degradation of the environment through the pollution of air; water and soil; the emission of greenhouse gases; the depletion of the ozone layer; climate change; melting glaciers; and the reckless exploitation of natural resources, including energy resources. Furthermore, the development of increasingly complex societal needs and the pursuit of maximum satisfaction generates additional costs and adverse environmental impacts. Therefore, socio-economic development highlights the need to address a fundamental challenge of achieving an enhanced standard of living for the world's population while minimizing negative environmental impacts. The answer to this question is reliant on the employment of modern technologies, including those embedded within the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, supporting the principles of sustainable development. Such technologies provide the capacity to comprehensively fulfill societal needs and expectations while delivering a better quality of life by using efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable technologies such as green energy.
This Special Issue aims to present the most recent developments and research which identifies relevant sustainability issues in the context of modern technology applications that optimize the use of energy resources. We invite researchers to submit papers that address solutions from a broad perspective, spanning both local and global contexts. We look forward to proposals that demonstrate a practical implementation potential and promote environmental protection, while also maintaining satisfactory living standards related to the processes of meeting needs and maximizing consumer satisfaction. We encourage submissions that analyze the use of modern technology as a determinant of sustainable development and consumer behavior in this context. Articles that explore advanced, forward-facing topics, such as the use of modern artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, are especially relevant for this Special Issue. Submissions may take the form of original research papers or review articles on topics consistent with the objectives and scope of this Special Issue.
The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:
- The use of energy resources and sustainable development;
- Alternative energy sources and sustainable development;
- Green energy and its use in households;
- The role of modern technologies in sustainable economics: balancing consumer needs and development optimization;
- The environmentally friendly context of using modern technologies;
- Energy poverty in the post-COVID-19 era;
- The energy transition in the European Union and its impact on the property market.
