Special Issue Information

The journal Entropy deals with the development and/or application of entropy or information-theoretic concepts in a wide variety of applications. Relevant submissions to this Special Issue ought to focus on aspects (with applications on animal behavior):

  • Providing new insights into entropy or information-theoretic concepts; and/or
  • Demonstrating a novel use of entropy or information-theoretic concepts in a particular application/case

Entropy, fractal analysis, game theory, and related methodologies from the information theory and mathematical world have been applied to understand the behavior of biological systems. This Special Issue is devoted to studies applying that knowledge to further the understanding, as well as the modeling, of all aspects of inter- and intra-animal species communications and behavior, including how they are affected by:

  • External inputs (such as changes in their environment, including environmental pollutants, changes in temperature, ocean acidification, etc.);
  • Encounters with novel/invasive species;
  • Neurological alterations;
  • Others.

Contributions showing the application of entropy and related nonlinear concepts and models to the development of practical tools to detect, for example, deviated behaviors, for disease diagnosis, environmental monitoring, etc., will be greatly welcomed.

All animal species and their interactions, including human, will be considered. Research papers will be given priority over review contributions.

Authors wishing to contribute are requested to please contact the editors ([email protected]) with a tentative title and/or subject matter prior to submitting their contribution to ensure that it fits the purpose of this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Entropy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
