Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

As the world population grows, significant effort and innovation are required to sustainably increase agricultural production and food processing, improve the global food supply chain, decrease food losses and waste, and ensure that all have access to nutritious food. World leaders have reaffirmed the universal right to safe and nutritious food. The challenges in achieving the targets set for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals (SDG-s) are interconnected and cannot be addressed in isolation. Our success in achieving these goals will demand some introspection concerning current and future food production, fulfilling global nutrition, and health demands.

Therefore, there is a need to interconnect science and technology to realize food sustainability. This includes strategies for food and agriculture systems, achieving food security, improving nutrition, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices, with the aim to reach the global food systems’ transformation stage to realize the SDGs by 2030. Thus, understanding these challenges and disseminating current knowledge on novel research and developments in food science and technology is vital in assessing  sustainable food systems.
