Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Integrative care is a combination of conventional medicine and other healing modalities not commonly taught in Western medical schools, like exercise, botanicals, low-dose therapy, acupuncture, ozone therapy, mind–body approaches, and stress management programs. The aim of this medical modality is the use of all appropriate therapeutic and healthcare professionals and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing. Chronic lung disease represents one of five non-communicable disease (NCD) areas that contribute to the highest mortality and morbidity globally, and there is a current crisis in the treatment of people with chronic respiratory disorders due to high levels of economic cost and reduced efficacy of drugs. For these reasons, integrative care for patients affected by chronic lung disease is increasing worldwide, and, for example, the use of certain natural products and herbal extracts for the management of respiratory disorders is being widely studied to reveal biological mechanisms of action that could translate into clinical practice. However, a scientific validation of both conventional and non-conventional approaches used in integrative care appears mandatory. The aim of this Special Issue is to advance our knowledge of integrated care models and interventions for chronic lung diseases. Research papers, original articles, reviews, and case reports are welcome.
