Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The introduction of health information technology (health IT) across the continuum of health care has led to many positive changes, including improvements in various population-based, organizational, and individual patient-level outcomes.  Simultaneously, new problems have arisen with health IT that have the potential to result in negative healthcare outcomes.  As health IT continues to evolve in both its functionality and use, there is a need to better understand the different priorities being placed on adopting new health IT systems, upgrading/enhancing existing systems, and leveraging both use of these systems and the data contained within them to support care enhancements.  This Special Issue seeks submissions exploring these wide range of priorities.  Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Use of data within health IT systems to improve population-based health outcomes.
  • Facilitating the use of health IT tools by patients to support chronic disease management.
  • Examining the impact of new clinical decision support functions such as the integration of genetic data and precision-based medicine.
  • Adoption of health IT systems by health care providers/organizations in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) with a focus on how findings are applicable to other LMICs.
