Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of death worldwide, significantly impacting quality of life and healthcare systems. Dietary patterns, particularly the Mediterranean diet, have emerged as powerful tools in the prevention and management of CVD and its associated risk factors. Rich in plant-based foods and healthy fats, this dietary approach has been linked to improvements in cardiometabolic health, nutritional status, and markers of systemic health.
This Special Issue invites original research and reviews that explore the role of the Mediterranean diet—alone or in combination with lifestyle interventions such as physical activity—in promoting cardiovascular health. We welcome studies ranging from randomized clinical trials to epidemiological analyses, as well as research that clarifies the pathways and processes through which diet influences cardiovascular outcomes.
By bringing together multidisciplinary perspectives, this collection aims to inform clinical practice, guide public health policy, and contribute to the global effort to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease through evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle strategies.
