Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Urban runoff poses significant challenges for hydrologists, urban planners, and environmental managers due to its impact on water quality, flood risks, and ecological health. Urbanization has dramatically transformed natural landscapes into impervious surfaces, significantly altering the hydrological cycle and increasing the volume and velocity of runoff in urban areas. Consequently, urban runoff management has become a critical area of research, aiming to mitigate adverse effects through innovative modelling techniques and sustainable management practices.

The aim of this Special Issue on “Urban Runoff: Modelling and Management” is to bring together cutting-edge research and practical solutions that address the complexities of urban runoff, seeking to advance our understanding of urban hydrological processes and to develop innovative modelling techniques and management strategies that can be applied in various urban settings

Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Urban rainfall runoff modelling;
  • Urban pollutants and transport;
  • Managing urban stormwater in the context of climate change;
  • Sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDSs) and water-sensitive urban design (WSUD);
  • Low-impact development/green infrastructure;
  • Using remote sensing and GIS for sustainable stormwater management;
  • Enhancing the flood resilience of urban drainage systems;
  • Numerical simulations (SWMM, HEC-HMS, InfoWorks, MIKE, etc.) for urban stormwater control, use, and treatment;
  • Centralized and decentralized systems for treating urban stormwater;
  • The impact of urban runoff on ecological and human health;
  • Harvesting rainwater and stormwater for a sustainable water cycle;
  • Modelling the performance of stormwater best management practices (BMPs).

We look forward to receiving your original research articles and reviews.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Hydrology is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
