10th Anniversary

The year 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of Hydrology, a peer-reviewed open access journal on hydrological sciences. With an Impact Factor of 3.2 and a CiteScore of 4.9, the journal is covered in Web of Science, Scopus, AGRIS, and other databases. The journal has published more than 1000 papers from more than 3800 authors. More than 2100 reviewers have reviewed the journal at least once. We equally value the contributions made by our editors, authors, and reviewers.

In honor of the journal’s 10th anniversary, we are reflecting on our past accomplishments and embarking on an exciting new chapter. We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone for our journal and to explore the content we have prepared for you below.

Journal History


The inaugural issue was released. Hydrology was published as a quarterly journal.

Prof. Dr. Okke Batelaan was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the Hydrology.

The first issue/paper of Hydrology was published on 28 May 2014.

Prof. Dr. Bellie Sivakumar was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Hydrology.

Hydrology was indexed by the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI).

Hydrology was indexed by Scopus—Elsevier.



Hydrology received a CiteScore (2018) of 2.02.

Hydrology announced the first edition of the Travel Awards.

Prof. Dr. Ezio Todini was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Hydrology.

The American Institute of Hydrology (AIH) became affiliated with Hydrology.



Hydrology announced the 2020 Best Paper Award winner:
A New Physically-Based Spatially-Distributed Groundwater Flow Module for SWAT+

Hydrology announced the 2019 Outstanding Reviewer Award winner: Dr. Henrique Momm.

The Japanese Society of Physical Hydrology (JSPH) became affiliated with Hydrology.



Ten new Sections were established.

Hydrology adopted a monthly publication schedule.

Dr. Tommaso Caloiero was appointed as the Section Editor-in-Chief for the Section "Hydrology–Climate Interactions".

Hydrology received its first Impact Factor (3.2), and was ranked 44/130 (Q2) in “Water Resources”.

Prof. Dr. Enda O'Connell was appointed as the Section Editor-in-Chief for the Section "Hydrological and Hydrodynamic Processes and Modelling".

The year 2024 marked the 10th anniversary of Hydrology.
