Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Nowadays, multidisciplinary approaches are considered the best treatments for many diseases, including neoplastic pathologies. Thanks to major advances in molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, and informatics, and with the onset of the omics sciences, a global view of disease that considers the characteristics of both the pathology and the patient has become possible and necessary.
Although precision medicine is very promising, there are still many barriers that hinder the acquisition of new insights. Indeed, pathological mechanisms are the result of several interconnected factors that contribute to the pathogenesis and evolution of a disease. This complexity results in the identification of a specific target that represents only a small piece of a wider mosaic. Moreover, in many diseases, after an initial therapeutic response, patients start to develop resistance to treatment due to the ability of tumor cells to activate new pathways able to escape drugs and uncontrollably proliferate. In quite a few cases, instead, what were considered promising and effective treatments during experimental phases show little or no benefit to patients.
Starting from the idea that the genome of each person, interacting with the environment, acquires unique characteristics, the paradigm has started to change: it is possible to conceive a comprehensive treatment that considers different information about the single patient. Thus, pathologies are not more comparable between different people and can be more efficiently and effectively diagnosed and treated with a one-to-one approach.
There are many expectations, and there is a high potential for precision medicine in the treatment of many diseases. For this reason, the entire scientific community is invited to expand and share knowledge in this field in order to contribute a thorough diagnosis, treatments, and monitoring of cancer disease.
New advances on molecular mechanisms or pathophysiology are welcome, whereas descriptive or phenomenological studies, as well as papers containing only clinical trials/data, do not fall within the scope of IJMS and cannot be accepted.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The new paradigm of precision medicine in oncological field: pros and cons.
- New potential targets for precision medicine in cancer.
- New advances and methodologies for the development of personalized medicine approaches for neoplastic diseases.
- Precision medicine and its application in oncology.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue
- Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
- Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
- Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
- External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
- e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
