Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a set of cells, extracellular vesicles, and molecules that, thanks to a close interaction with cancer cells, contribute to the development, growth, and progression of the tumor, including its ability to infiltrate the surrounding healthy tissues and give rise to metastases.

The TME, as a whole, can be considered an integral part of the tumor; therefore, a study of its cellular and molecular components is critical for understanding how tumors grow and evolve.

Non-coding RNAs represent a large class of molecules with structural and regulatory functions. They can be detected both within and outside of cells, and their expression can be modulated during the transition from physiological to pathological condition.

The study of the expression and function of non-coding RNAs (ncRNA), especially ncRNAs exerting a regulatory role of gene expression (e.g.: microRNAs, circular RNAs, long non-coding RNAs, etc.) in the TME, and an in-depth analysis of their involvement in the crosstalk between the TME and tumor cells have seldom been conducted.

Researchers involved in this field of study or related ones are welcome to submit articles and reviews to this Special Issue, titled “Tumor Microenvironment and Non-Coding RNAs: Where We Are Now and Where We Are Going To”.

Through this Special Issue, we aim to expand the knowledge base in this area, aiding understanding of which molecular networks are involved in the formation and modification of the microenvironment during the development and progression of tumors.
