Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Female infertility is a major global health challenge, affecting millions of women of reproductive age and impacting 8–12% of couples worldwide. Infertility is a complex, multifactorial condition that arises from genetic, epigenetic, hormonal, metabolic, immunological, and environmental influences. At the same time, recent advances in molecular biology and reproductive medicine have created unprecedented opportunities to improve diagnostics, therapeutics, and preventive strategies for infertility and subfertility.
This Special Issue, Molecular Perspectives on Female Infertility and Fertility, aims to bring together high-quality contributions that deepen our understanding of the molecular mechanisms regulating female reproductive health, fertility preservation, and infertility pathogenesis. By fostering multidisciplinary research, this collection seeks to accelerate translational progress from bench to bedside and to inform innovative approaches for diagnosis, treatment, and personalized medicine.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, and short communications covering (but not limited to) the following topics:
- Molecular and cellular mechanisms of oocyte development, maturation, and competence;
- Genetic, epigenetic, and transcriptomic regulation of female fertility and infertility;
- Hormonal signaling pathways and endocrine regulation in reproductive health;
- Oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and metabolic reprogramming in infertility;
- Molecular basis of gynecologic disorders affecting fertility (e.g., PCOS, endometriosis, premature ovarian insufficiency, ovarian failure);
- Inflammatory and immune-related mechanisms in reproductive dysfunction;
- DNA damage, genome integrity, and reproductive aging;
- Molecular biomarkers for oocyte quality, embryo viability, and clinical outcomes;
- Experimental and translational models for studying female infertility;
- MicroRNAs, non-coding RNAs, and molecular diagnostics in reproductive medicine;
- Stem cell biology, regenerative approaches, and bioengineering for fertility restoration;
- Novel therapeutic strategies, including pharmacological, nutraceutical, gene therapy, and precision medicine approaches.
If you are engaged in molecular, cellular, or translational research on female infertility and fertility, we warmly invite you to contribute to this Special Issue. Your work will help advance scientific knowledge and shape the future of women’s reproductive health worldwide.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
