JCM Free Webinar: Prediction of Preterm Birth in High Risk Pregnancies—06 December 2020

Preterm birth (PTB) remains one of the biggest challenges in contemporary obstetrics as it is associated with an increased risk of mortality as well as short- and long-term morbidity of the offspring. Many risk factors for PTB have been identified, including multiple gestation, placental insufficiency, cervical pathology and uterine factors, among others. As a result, many women are currently classified as at high risk for PTB. Accurate prediction of PTB is crucial as it can assist in selecting the optimal prevention measurements and counseling regarding the suitable antepartum follow up and the need for potential transfer to the appropriate facility in case of very high risk of PTB.

With a distinguished panel of leaders in this field, Professors Liran Hiersch, John Kingdom, Nathan Fox, Tal Biron-Shental and Ido Solt, this webinar will address aspects and perspectives on the prediction of PTB in various clinical scenarios.

Current Oncology, Canada's Premier Oncology Journal, Published with MDPI from 2021

MDPI acquired Current Oncology (ISSN 1718-7729) in October 2020 from Multimed Publications Inc., who launched the title in 1994, as Canada’s first peer-reviewed journal in oncology.

Current Oncology features papers in all fields of cancer medicine, including radiation oncology, surgical oncology, medical oncology, pediatric oncology, pathology, and cancer rehabilitation and survivorship. It continues to be a trusted source for all members of the oncology community in Canada and abroad.

Coverage in indexing services includes MEDLINE (PubMed/National Library of Medicine), the Science Citation Index Expanded (Web of Science), Journal Citation Reports, Scopus (Elsevier), EMBASE (Elsevier), and more. Current Oncology's 2019 Impact Factor is 2.257, ranked 185/244 in the 'Oncology' category.

Previously published six times annually, normally with one or two additional supplements, MDPI will continue the schedule of bimonthly publications. The current volume of Current Oncology (v. 27) will be concluded at the end of 2020, at which point MDPI will take over publication of the journal, starting with Volume 28, at the beginning of 2021.

The goal is to greatly expand the journal's global reach, alongside MDPI's flagship Cancers journal, in order to become one of the world’s leading oncology journals.

JCM 2020 Outstanding Research Award” Winner Announcement

The JCM Outstanding Research Award was initiated to recognize outstanding research by authors of the journal that has had a significant international impact. The novelty and significance of research works were assessed by the JCM Editorial Board and reviewers along with consideration of the citations.

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Robin Nicholas Thompson will be granted the JCM 2020 Outstanding Research Award for his contribution of using mathematical models to represent the epidemiological or evolutionary behavior of infectious disease outbreaks. The main aims are not only to generate forecasts of specific outbreaks but also to understand how diseases spread such that forecasts can be made, and control interventions can be planned with more precision.

His paper “Novel Coronavirus Outbreak in Wuhan, China, 2020: Intense Surveillance Is Vital for Preventing Sustained Transmission in New Locations” published in February 2020 (https://www.mdpi.com/2077-0383/9/2/498) was recognized as recommended reading by the World Health Organization.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Thompson on receiving this award.

JCM Free Webinar: Dry Eye 360- Looking at Dry Eye Disease from all Directions—3rd November 2020

Dry Eye Disease (DED) has gained recognition as a public health problem given its prevalence, morbidity, and cost implications. DED can have a variety of symptoms including blurred vision and ocular pain (dryness, burning aching) and a variety of signs including decreased tear production, corneal epithelial disruption, and rapid tear evaporation. However, it is well known that there is often a discrepancy between symptoms and signs of disease.
