Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The population of adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD) grows across the world. All the patients require specialized lifelong care and multidisciplinary management. The objectives of this issue are to outline the problems and to provide an overview of selected goals of therapy. Our daily activity is based on close collaboration with congenital cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, imaging specialists, heart failure experts, pregnancy teams, and many others. In this Special Issue, we plan to underscore the most affected groups of patients and to demonstrate how we proceed in order to improve their quality of life. The focus will be on the prevalence of heart failure, the efficacy of drug therapy in systemic left and right ventricles, and the application of modern electrophysiological approaches. We will also discuss the current options for Eisenmenger syndrome patients, where short life expectancy can be improved by the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension-targeted therapy. The importance of coordinated care in ACHD patients has been proven not only by our long-lasting experience but also by the constant dedication of specialized centres in the world. We invite you to this discussion.
