Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Physical therapy has become an essential component of modern healthcare, particularly in the context of rehabilitation. As populations age and chronic diseases become more prevalent, the demand for effective, evidence-based physical therapy interventions continues to rise. Rehabilitation currently encompasses a broad spectrum of patient needs, ranging from a plethora of health issues, such as neurological recovery and orthopedic management, to cardiopulmonary and post-COVID-19 rehabilitation. With this shift, physical therapists must stay up-to-date with clinical research, technological innovations, and interdisciplinary approaches to deliver optimal care.

This Special Issue, ‘Clinical Updates of Physical Therapy in Rehabilitation’, is dedicated to presenting timely and relevant updates that provide evidence-based information on clinical practice, guide research priorities, and support continuing education for rehabilitation professionals. This Special Issue will explore a wide array of topics, including, but not limited to, neurorehabilitation, musculoskeletal and orthopedic therapy, chronic pain management, sports medicine, and the rehabilitation of complex medical conditions. Special emphasis will be placed on emerging tools such as virtual reality, robotic-assisted therapy, artificial intelligence, and other digital technologies that are reshaping how rehabilitation services are delivered.

The integration of technology into rehabilitation not only enhances patient engagement and accessibility, but also opens new avenues for data-driven and personalized care. Additionally, this Special Issue aims to highlight clinical trials, systematic reviews, and practice guidelines that inform safe, effective, and efficient treatment pathways.

By bridging scientific research with clinical applications, this Special Issue will serve as a vital resource for physical therapists and researchers who are committed to improving patient outcomes. It will foster collaborative understanding of how physical therapy can address functional limitations, prevent complications, and support long-term recovery across all stages of care.

Through this Special Issue, we hope to inspire ongoing learning, innovation, and excellence in the dynamic field of rehabilitation based on a combination of original research and review papers.

Topics for submission include the following:

Neurological rehabilitation;
Orthopedic and musculoskeletal rehabilitation;
Cardiopulmonary and post-COVID rehabilitation;
Rehabilitation of pediatrics, geriatrics, and special populations;
Integrating technology into physical therapy;
The role of physical therapy in multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams.
