Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the decline in all-cause mortality, there is a major rise in the geriatric population, with a subsequent rise in the cumulative cancer risk in this population. This demographic shift mandates the development of new approaches to cover the requirements of this population. Physiological reserve, functional status, cognition, and psychosocial functioning should be considered when drafting a treatment management plan. At the same time, socioeconomic factors, including the cost of health services, health literacy, and access to standard cancer care, can represent barriers to delivering standard evidence-based cancer care when clinically appropriate.

This Special Issue, titled “Clinical Updates on Geriatric Oncology,” covers a wide range of topics, including pathophysiological changes that affect oncologic care in the geriatric population, assessment tools for frailty, the implementation of geriatric oncology programs in cancer centers, the need for standardization of geriatric oncologic care.

Our goal is to deliver a reference issue that covers an important yet underinvestigated topic and presents the most updated information to guide geriatric oncology care. As an expert in this field, we looked forward to your contribution to this Special Issue.
