Dear Colleagues,
Colour imaging systems are ultimately designed for human observers, yet advances in image acquisition, enhancement, reproduction, and evaluation are often developed without fully integrating perceptual evidence. Recent progress in computational imaging, artificial intelligence, display technology, spectral imaging, and extended reality presents an important opportunity to connect emerging imaging technologies with human perception. Such integration is essential for creating accurate, meaningful, inclusive, and visually compelling imaging experiences.
This Special Issue brings together two complementary themes: human colour perception and recent technological advances in colour imaging. It welcomes research across the acquisition, processing, reproduction, perception, and assessment of colour images, particularly work that combines technical innovation with perceptual validation, modelling, or real-world application.
Relevant topics include colour and contrast perception; colour appearance and visual adaptation; observer variability and psychophysics; perceptual image-quality assessment; spectral and multispectral imaging; high-dynamic-range and wide-colour-gamut imaging; computational colour enhancement and reconstruction; colour reproduction and management; camera and display characterization; immersive displays; and colour imaging in virtual, augmented, mixed, and extended reality. Artificial intelligence- and learning-based colour processing, skin colour and facial appearance, accessibility, diverse populations, cross-media reproduction, and context-dependent colour perception are also within the scope of this Special Issue.
We invite original research articles, reviews, datasets, and methodological contributions that advance human-centred colour imaging, establish perceptual evaluation datasets or protocols, compare computational and perceptual metrics, or translate laboratory findings into practical imaging applications.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
