Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Green landscapes are crucial for the sustainable development of human society. Natural areas and forests, agricultural and urban green areas, and rural and urban green infrastructures are all constituents of the natural capital, and so are essential for human development and wellbeing.

Green landscapes provide a wide range of ecosystem services, from the supply of food and raw materials, to the regulation of physical and biological cycles, to the provision of aesthetic and cultural values, to the provision of recreation and tourism possibilities.

The planning and design of green landscapes affects many different aspects of human life and social organization. For this reason, it is increasingly necessary to go beyond sectoral approaches and build an integrated vision and a multi-disciplinary and multi-scale approach, bringing together points of view and competencies from different fields.

We invite academics and researchers to submit both original research and review papers focusing on, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • landscape planning at the regional and/or local level, both in rural and urban contexts;
  • urban green areas’ planning and design;
  • assessment of the ecosystem services provided by the green landscape, both in rural and urban areas;
  • green infrastructures and nature-based solutions for climate regulation, in rural and urban contexts;
  • green infrastructures in rural and urban contexts;
  • greenways for active mobility and tourism;
  • natural and green areas for human health and wellbeing;
  • nature-based health interventions.
