Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to focus on the impact of microbial environments, particularly indoor microbiomes, on children's health. Indoor air quality is becoming increasingly recognized as a significant factor in shaping human health, especially in vulnerable populations such as children. This Special Issue aims to explore the role of environmental microbiota, including bacteria and fungi, in the development and exacerbation of various childhood diseases, such as asthma, allergies, and respiratory infections. In addition to environmental factors, we aim to consider maternal factors, such as maternal BMI, immune status, and medication use, as these can influence prenatal and early childhood immune development and, consequently, susceptibility to health issues. By examining the interactions between indoor microbial diversity, maternal influences, and immune system development, we aim to highlight preventive strategies and interventions that can promote healthier environments for children.

Contributions from both experimental and clinical studies, as well as systematic reviews, will help advance our understanding of how indoor microbiomes and maternal factors together influence pediatric health outcomes.
