Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The extraction of bioactive lipid compounds from seafood by-products has gained significant attention due to their potential applications in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and functional foods. These lipid bioactive compounds offer promising health benefits due antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, and neuroprotective properties and may play an important role in the prevention and treatment of various diseases, such as cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Innovations in extraction technologies and synthesis methods are essential for improving the efficiency, yield, and purity of these compounds for commercial applications.

This Special Issue explores the state-of-the-art technologies for the extraction of bioactive compounds from seafood by-products. It addresses the knowledge enhancement on novel extraction techniques, synthesis processes, optimization of solvents for enhanced safety and efficiency, and biological effects on health and nutrition.

Current research has demonstrated the feasibility of extracting bioactive compounds from marine lipid by-products and synthesizing them using innovative approaches. However, gaps exist in understanding the full spectrum of bioactivities, mechanisms of action, and optimal conditions for extraction and synthesis. Further studies are needed to explore the therapeutic potentials of these compounds comprehensively and their applications in promoting health.

This Special Issue invites you to contribute original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that advance our understanding of innovative technologies for extracting bioactive lipid compounds from seafood by-products. By addressing research gaps and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, this Special Issue aims to accelerate progress towards sustainable and effective utilization of marine resources in biotechnological and biomedical applications.

The scope of this Special Issue includes exploring novel methods for extracting and synthesizing bioactive lipid compounds derived from seafood by-products. This involves developing cutting-edge techniques and technologies to optimize extraction efficiency, enhance compound purity, and explore new applications. The aim of this Special Issue is to propose sustainable practices in obtaining valuable lipids while maximizing their bioactivity and potential health benefits.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Marine Drugs is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
