Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue will publish selected papers from the Micro Flow and Interfacial Phenomena, µFIP 2024 Conference (Hong Kong, China, 20–24 June 2024, https://www.microfip.org/). This conference is the successor of the "International Conference on Microchannels and Minichannels" (ICMM), being held since 2003, and the "International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels and Minichannels" (ICNMM). The inaugural µFIP conference was held virtually in 2021 and in person at UC Irvine in 2022 and at Northwestern University in 2023. Given the importance of climate change and the water-energy nexus, the scientific objective of µFIP is to bring together phase change and single-phase heat transfer, multi-phase flow, biochemical and biomedical engineering, and micro flow process communities with an emphasis on energy applications having components exhibiting microchannel flow or microscale surface phenomena (e.g., droplets, thin films, bubbles, etc.).

We aim to collect high-quality research papers and review articles from µFIP 2024. The conference will cover the following main topics:

  • Droplets, Bubbles, and Wetting;
  • Micro/Nano-Fluidics, Biochemical/Biomedical;
  • Nature-Inspired Surfaces and Materials;
  • Heat Transfer;
  • Energy or Water Harvesting;
  • Simulations and Machine Learning.

The papers that attract the most interest in the conference or that provide novel contributions will be selected for publication in Micromachines. These papers will be peer-reviewed for the validation of research results, developments, and applications. In addition, submissions from others that are not associated with this conference but with themes focusing on micro flow and interfacial phenomena are also welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Micromachines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
