Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The field of functional and tailored advanced materials has experienced remarkable progress, with diverse applications in electronics, sensor devices, energy, environmental, and medical fields. Sensing applications of these materials have attracted significant attention from the scientific community, leading to numerous high-quality publications and technological innovations. Nanomaterials have been particularly instrumental in the development of various technologies due to their enhanced physical, chemical, and functional characteristics. Notably, carbon-based materials like single-walled or multi-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs or MWCNTs) and graphene oxide (GO) have garnered considerable interest as potential sensor materials. Additionally, their nanohybrids have emerged as a highly promising approach for the development of high-performance sensor materials. Rapid advancements in novel sensor materials hold potential for the design of unique sensor devices with outstanding properties, enabling the precise fabrication of these devices. This progress in functional advanced materials and sensing applications has paved the way for innovative technologies and potential breakthroughs in a wide range of fields, making a significant impact on society.

In view of the increasing amounts of research in this field, this Special Issue aims to gather original research papers and topical reviews concerning all aspects of sensors and sensing devices. Topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Functional nanomaterials for sensing applications;
  • Carbon- and polymer-based composites for sensors;
  • Design of sensors for smart healthcare;
  • Sensors in wearable technologies;
  • Bio-inspired or materials for sensing devices;
  • Sustainable approaches to sensing device manufacturing;
  • Biocompatibility issues in sensing devices;
  • Innovative strategies for fabricating sensor devices;
  • Sensors demonstrated with (or integrated with) computation analysis.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Micromachines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
