Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Porphyromonas gingivalis is a major oral pathobiont. This Special Issue presents a comprehensive exploration of the complex interactions between the periodontal pathogen P. gingivalis and its human host. It will contain the aspects of P. gingivalis biology, pathogenesis, and the host's immune response, offering insights into the mechanisms underlying periodontal disease progression. Focal points of this issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

Bacterial Pathogenesis: an in-depth analysis of P. gingivalis virulence factors, their role in evading host defenses, and the initiation of periodontal tissue destruction.

Host–Microbe Interactions: examination of the intricate relationship between P. gingivalis and host cells, including the mechanisms of bacterial adhesion, invasion, and immune modulation.

Innate Immune Response: a discussion of the host innate immune system’s role in recognizing and responding to P. gingivalis infection, including the function of neutrophils, macrophages, and dendritic cells.

Adaptive Immune Response: insights into the activation and regulation of the host’s adaptive immune system in response to P. gingivalis, including T-cell and B-cell responses.
