Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce a Special Issue entitled “Natural Dyes for the Textile and Leather Industries—for the Future’s sustainability”, focusing on the dynamic and multifaceted roles of dyes obtained from natural sources. These dyes contribute to the esthetic appeal of textile and leather products, acting also as bioactive agents, making them functional tools that impart significant useful properties for both the finished products, from a preservation perspective, and the consumers’ protection.
Recent scientific advances in identification and application have revealed the impressive potential of natural dyes, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral activities.
This Special Issue aims to explore the potential applications of natural dyes in the textile and leather industries and to elucidate their bioactive mechanisms. This research has the potential to significantly impact the use and application of natural dyes, improving their role in promoting ecologically healthier solutions. Yet, the knowledge regarding these dyes’ drawbacks, in what concerns their low bonding rate associated with the decreased color fastness properties, requires intensive scientific work to develop innovative fixation strategies and/or agents which will allow these disadvantages to be overcome.
We invite you to contribute review articles and innovative research focused on new extraction methodologies, comprehensive pigment characterization, new natural binding agents, innovative green strategies for dye fixation to fiber, and the development of natural dyes formulations with improved biofunctionalities and color fastness properties.
