Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The demand for new, more efficient materials, applied to different areas, such as packaging, tissue engineering, drug delivery systems, or compounds of interest to health, is stimulating the development of new strategies and research for the development of materials. For the development of these materials, many polymers are used (synthetic and natural). However, the use of natural polymers is standing out, mainly due to important characteristics, such as: obtaining from renewable sources, large-scale production, diverse chemical structures (which allow different modifications), biodegradability, biocompatibility, reduced cytotoxicity, among others. These characteristics make the application of these natural polymeric materials to be widely explored in different areas, such as in the production of packaging, disintegration films (applied to the most different mucous membranes), in materials related to tissue engineering, such as scaffolds, hydrogels, as carriers of active compounds, nanostructured, among others. Thus, this Special Issue aims to disseminate recent research related to the development of new materials based on natural polymers applied in the pharmaceutical, medical and materials fields.
