Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Following the success of the SI (Special Issue) "Glutathione: Chemistry and Biochemistry", we are pleased to launch a new SI titled "Chemistry and Biochemistry of Cellular Thiols". Cellular thiols play an essential role in a multitude of cellular processes, including redox homeostasis, cell cycle control, immunological defense, and pathological abnormalities. Besides glutathione, the well-known antioxidant cytosolic tripeptide, there are several enzymes, transcription factors and signaling proteins with reactive thiol functions. The reactive thiol functions of these cellular macromolecules play important roles in the maintenance of healthy cellular functions and development of particular diseases.

This Special Issue will publish research papers and review articles that include the widest range of chemical and biochemical changes related to cellular thiols. Papers that discuss any aspect of the complex thiol-based redox homeostasis as well as drug delivery systems that can be applied to efficiently increase or decrease cellular glutathione levels are all welcome. The aim of this compilation is to collect up-to-date knowledge of our understanding of the roles of the thiol network in the homeostasis of the living state of matter. From a medicinal chemistry point of view, submissions on any type of intervention of modification of functions of the network are also welcome.

According to the above set aims, I wish to ask all researchers who know the field and who are active practitioners of any segment of the field to participate in this endeavor.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
