Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In terms of sustainability and circularity, wood as a natural raw material is characterized by inherent advantages and provides multiple benefits because it can be engineered into a wide range of wood-based materials with reduced carbon footprints. Considering the increased global demand for wood and wood-based materials, which is projected to triple between 2010 and 2050, the sustainable exploitation of natural resources for producing a diverse array of value-added, high-performance wood-based products is a key circular economy principle aimed at enhancing the ongoing digital and green transition of forest-based industries. This green transformation is a viable approach to place the wood-based panel industry on a new path of more sustainable and competitive growth, reducing its dependance on petroleum-derived feedstocks, minimizing waste generation and pollution, and ensuring optimized resource efficiency.

The Special Issue “Polymers in Wood Composites: Revolutionizing Eco-Friendly Materials for a Sustainable Future” aims to collect high-quality original research and review articles on topics including (but not limited to) the latest approaches in the development of novel eco-friendly wood-based composites; green, biobased wood adhesives derived from renewable sources; novel techniques and methods for reducing formaldehyde emissions from wood-based composites; the synthesis and performance of formaldehyde-free wood adhesive systems; enhanced valorization of renewable lignocellulosic feedstocks for manufacturing sustainable composites; advanced processes for recycling wood-based composites; the recovery, reuse, recycling, and/or upcycling of wood and wood-based materials; valorization of renewable feedstocks for manufacturing value-added chemicals and high-performance wood composites; non-wood lignocellulosic composites; biobased polymer composites based on renewable agricultural and biomass feedstocks; advanced functionalities and application of sustainable polymer composites.

We strongly encourage contributions from wood researchers, professionals from industrial practice, and experts from all related fields in the form of original research works or review articles.

With kind regards,

Prof. Dr. Petar Antov

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
