Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Raman spectroscopy has been implemented for decades in a wide range of scientific fields, from material characterizations (polymers, ceramics, fluids ...) to the pharmaceutical industry, medicine, forensics, biology or civil engineering and cultural heritage. It is fully adapted to a wide variety of materials in any phase. Instruments that first allowed single local measurements are now able to complete a mapping with the generation of a hyperspectral image. Probes can be immersed in aggressive fluids, can monitor processes, and the limit of detection of some chemical species can now be extremely low. Both qualitative and quantitative information can be obtained on the concentration, the constraints, or the structural disorder. Thus, Raman spectroscopy is a powerful analytical technique, and now appears to be an effective and an efficient way to access physico-chemical phenomena at stake in complex processes in many different situations that are encountered in various fields (materials science, biology, medicine, environment ...).

We hope that the Special Issue will become an opportunity for the sharing and exchange of experiences and valuable observations of researchers in various fields and will also open up new perspectives in Raman spectroscopy developments.

This Special Issue will concentrate on highlighting timely research studies addressing topics where Raman spectroscopy is involved including, but not limited to:

- Experimental research on process development and engineering; chemical and biochemical reaction processes; separation and purification processes;

- Green and biomass processes;

- Food processing, production, preservation, quality and biological control;

- Pharmaceutical and drug synthesis; pharmaceutical processing and optimization; monitoring and quality control of pharmaceutical manufacturing and drug processes; physicochemical properties of drug product development; nanomedicine and nanotechnology; biological and biosimilar process monitoring;

- Separation, extraction, crystallization and purification validation processes;

- Civil engineering materials behaviors and identification of alteration processes;

- Processes creating, upgrading and using particles; characterization of particle systems;

- Investigations of sub-cellular/microbial processes; tissues and microbial characterizations; bioreactors.

Authors are invited and welcome to submit original research papers, reviews, and short communications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
