Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The field of alloy manufacturing is central to advancements in various industries, including the aerospace, automotive, and biomedical sectors. The evolution of alloy microstructure during manufacturing processes plays a critical role in determining the final properties and performance of materials. Understanding, therefore, the intricate relationship between manufacturing techniques, microstructural evolution, and the resulting mechanical properties is key to developing new materials with enhanced performance and improving existing ones. As manufacturing technologies advance, including additive manufacturing, advanced casting, and thermomechanical processing, the control of microstructure becomes increasingly complex yet more critical.

We are pleased to announce a Special Issue titled “Alloy Manufacturing Processes and Systems: New Methods and Insights” in the journal Processes. This Special Issue aims to compile recent cutting-edge research and developments on the manufacturing processes of various alloys, including but not limited to steel, aluminum, titanium, and nickel-based alloys, providing insights that can drive innovations in materials and manufacturing. We invite researchers and industry experts to submit original research articles, review papers, and case studies on, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Manufacturing processes: exploration of traditional and advanced manufacturing techniques, including casting, forging, rolling, extrusion, additive manufacturing, and powder metallurgy.
  • Microstructural characterization: analysis of microstructural changes induced by different manufacturing processes, including grain structure, phase distribution, and defect formation.
  • Heat treatment: the role of heat treatment in modifying the microstructure and mechanical properties of alloys.
  • Mechanical properties: investigation of the mechanical properties of alloys, such as strength, ductility, toughness, and fatigue resistance, as influenced by their microstructure.
  • Process–structure–property relationships: understanding the correlations between manufacturing methods, the resulting microstructure, and the mechanical performance of alloys.
  • Innovative alloys and applications: development of novel alloys tailored for specific applications, with a focus on their manufacturing challenges and mechanical properties.
  • Case studies: application-focused studies that demonstrate the real-world impact of microstructural and mechanical properties on the performance of alloys in specific industries.

We hope you consider participating in this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
