10th Anniversary

The year 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of Separations, a peer-reviewed open access journal on separation and purification science and technology in all areas of chemical, biological, physical science, and separation performance. With a current Impact Factor of 2.5 and a CiteScore of 3.0, the journal is covered in Scopus, SCIE (Web of Science), CAPlus/SciFinder and other databases. The journal has published more than 1800 papers from more than 7000 authors. More than 3000 reviewers have reviewed the journal at least once. We equally value the contributions made by our editors, authors, and reviewers.

In honor of the journal’s 10th anniversary, we are reflecting on our past accomplishments and embarking on an exciting new chapter. We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone for our journal and to explore the content we have prepared for you below.

Journal History


The inaugural issue was released. Separations was published as a quarterly journal.

Frank L. Dorman was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the Separations.

The first issue/paper of the Separations was published on 25 February 2013

The journal’s name is changed from Chromatography to Separations in 2016.

Separations was indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) and the Web of Science.

Separations started the Travel Award project.



Separations announced the first edition of the Travel awards.

Separations was indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics).

Separations announced the first edition of the Best Paper awards.



Separations received its Impact Factor/ Citescore (2019) of 1.9.

Separations announced the first edition of Outstanding Reviewer awards.

Separations announced the first edition of Highly Cited Paper awards.

The Central European Group of Separation Sciences became affiliated to Separations.

Separations adopted a monthly publication schedule.

The Impact Factor increased to 2.777.
Separations established the following sections:

Separations received its 2021 Impact Factor (3.344), ranked 37/87 (Q2) in “Chemistry, Analytical”.
Separations established the following sections: Section "Materials in Analysis" was renamed as "Materials in Separation Science";
Section "Environmental Analysis" was renamed as "Environmental Separations".

Separations published its 1,000th paper.

Separations 2024 Young Investigator Award—Open for Nominations

To reward the academic community, especially young researchers, and enhance communication among scientists, Separations(ISSN: 2297-8739) is offering 2024 Young Investigator Award.

This prize will be given to 1 young investigator in recognition of their excellence in separation science research. (for YI award only)

This prize will be awarded to one doctor who produced ground-breaking research and made a significant contribution to the advancement of separation science;

Prizes:

  • CHF 2000;
  • Option to publish one paper free of charge in the Separations after peer review, valid for one year;
