Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Separations, the “Materials in Separation Science” section has taken the initiative to launch a Special Issue entitled “10th Anniversary Special Issues: Membrane Separation Processes”.

Over the last two decades, various types of membrane separation technologies have evolved into reliable and techno-economically attractive separation processes for different industrial applications (e.g., biochemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical, metallurgical, food and beverage, environmental protection, wastewater treatment, water production, energy production, etc.). Currently, the scope of research and development in membrane separation processes has expanded considerably, thanks to the progress made in advanced materials and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for enhanced membrane separation performance, cost reduction, and innovation strategies, addressing complex challenges and fostering sustainability.

This Special Issue, "Membrane Separation Processes", aims to collect original research, communication, and review articles on the application of membrane materials and modules in separation processes applied for different purposes, including, but not limited to, filtration (micro-, ultra-, and nano-filtration), reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, pressure-retarded osmosis, pervaporation, dialysis, electro-dialysis, reverse electrodialysis, membrane contactors (e.g., membrane distillation, crystallization, emulsification, blood oxygenator, and condensers), fuel cells, carbon capture, controlled drug delivery, membrane bioreactors, emerging and catalytic processes, and integrated or hybrid membrane processes.

It is our pleasure to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue dedicated to theoretical (transport phenomena, CFD simulation, AI and ML, performance optimization, economic and energy analysis of membrane-based systems, etc.), and experimental membrane separation and purification technologies for all purposes.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Separations is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
