Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Recently the Canadian LGBTQ2SIA+ organization, Egale (Jakubiec et al., October, 2023), released a research report that once again concludes that there are many specific barriers to health experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and nonbinary people in Canada. A recent UK scoping review (Zeeman et al., 2022) found that alcohol use is more prevalent in this population than in the cishet population.  Further, in the US, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, Medicine (2020) itemize the challenges faced in understanding the well-being of gender and sexual minority populations, including critical data gaps in gathering information regarding well-being. Well-being and health are inter-related, and both are necessary resources for everyday life, shaped by social, economic, political and environmental factors. Positive health and well-being enable a positive quality of life and the ability of individuals to fully participate in their world. In this Special Issue, submissions are invited from those working in any area of LGBTQI+ health and well-being, from explorations of medical practitioner/client interactions to the lived experience of nonbinary school children, the positive and negative experiences of trans athletes, reflections and recommendations for good practices and beyond. We are seeking articles that cross the age range, cover the varied subgroups of LGBTQI+ and utilize a range of methodologies and disciplinary/crossdisciplinary approaches and theories. We especially invite articles on under-researched populations such as LGBTQI+ people in the Global South.
