New Generation Photovoltaics for Space (PVSPACE-24)
Scientific Organization Committee: Dr. Narges Yaghoobi Nia; Prof. Joseph M. Luther; Dr. Mahmoud Zendehdel.
Aligned with the swift growth of the space economy, emerging photovoltaic systems, such as perovskite solar cells and multi-junction thin film PVs, exhibit intriguing characteristics. These include high efficiency in ultra-low-cost modules, a short energy payback time, large-scale solution-process manufacturing, intrinsic stability against high-energy particles and rays, as well as being lightweight with high specific power. These features position them as formidable contenders against conventional PV systems in space applications.
The primary objective of the conference is to offer a platform for experts in various space energy and PV sectors and technologies to receive updated insights into the progress, state-of-the-art developments, and future roadmap of the new generation of PVs and advanced power generation and transmission systems in space applications. The concept of space applications extends beyond existing ones like satellite powering and traditional space missions to encompass novel space advancements, such as extraterrestrial bases, deployable flexible PV arrays, inflatable solar cells, solar power stations, wireless power transmission, green propulsion, active debris removal, and more. The conference will also emphasize space-relevant tests of new PV technologies, along with inaugural experimental demonstrations in space environments.
