Section Information

The section Health, Well-Being and Sustainability aims to serve as a leading interdisciplinary platform for advancing knowledge on the complex interconnections between human health, human well-being, and sustainable systems. It seeks to promote research that bridges the gaps between environmental science, public health, social equity, and sustainability studies, with the ultimate goal of informing policies and practices that foster thriving communities and a resilient planet.

The section Health, Well-Being and Sustainability publishes original research, reviews, theoretical frameworks, and case studies that address, but are not limited to, the following themes:

  • The health and well-being impacts of environmental (dis)amenities, such as green spaces, biodiversity, pollution, and urban design;
  • The role of pro-environmental and sustainable behaviors in enhancing subjective well-being and mental health;
  • Intersections between climate change, biodiversity loss, and human health, including resilience and adaptation strategies;
  • Sustainable food systems, nutrition, and their influence on physical and mental health;
  • Social equity and environmental justice in the context of health and well-being disparities;
  • Innovations in healthcare systems and policies that integrate sustainability principles;
  • Behavioral, cultural, and systemic approaches to fostering sustainable lifestyles.

The section welcomes contributions from a broad range of disciplines, including public health, environmental science, psychology, sociology, economics, urban studies, sustainability science, and policy studies. By fostering a dialogue across numerous fields, Health, Well-Being and Sustainability aims to provide actionable insights and inspire solutions for the most pressing challenges of our time.
