Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to explore the complex and evolving relationship between sustainability and biodiversity conservation, with a particular focus on how these themes intersect with human empathy and perception in both natural and urban settings. As biodiversity conservation becomes increasingly embedded within broader sustainability frameworks, scientific attention has turned toward understanding how biological diversity can be preserved concurrently with the social and economic dimensions of sustainable development.

We invite contributions that examine the diverse aspects of this integration, including public participation, the evaluation of biodiversity indicators, and the development of ecological conservation approaches. The scope of this Special Issue further includes the interplay between urban governance and diverse thematic areas such as ecosystem service assessment and provision, forestry, ecology, sociology, urban planning, and how people perceive and relate to nature.

By drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives—from urban studies and ecology to forestry, psychology, economics, and biodiversity science—this Special Issue aims to offer a holistic understanding of how sustainable ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation are mutually connected with human perception. We seek to offer novel insights into biodiversity conservation planning and policy, enriching the existing literature with integrated viewpoints.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
