Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, titled “Sustainable Food Processing and Food Packaging Technologies”, focuses on reviews, regular research papers, communications, and short notes regarding all aspects of sustainable and relevant techniques used in food processing or food packaging. Sustainable food production embodies practices that maintain an ecological balance, support biodiversity, and mitigate environmental impacts. Sustainability in food processing focuses on reducing waste and energy consumption while maintaining product safety and quality, whereas sustainable food packaging focuses on minimizing various environmental impacts throughout its lifecycle through the utilization of biodegradable materials and plant-based alternatives, reducing materials and maximizing recyclability. Moreover, practices such as lifecycle assessments and energy-efficient manufacturing further enhance sustainability. By prioritizing eco-friendly materials and efficient design, sustainable food processing and packaging aim to reduce waste and promote environmental stewardship in the food industry. Papers on the following topics or similar ones are welcome to be submitted to this Issue:

  1. Sustainable minimal/non-thermal processing;
  2. Sustainable techniques used in food production/manufacturing;
  3. Food industrial waste valorization;
  4. Development of sustainable packaging materials;
  5. Life cycle analysis;
  6. Sustainability evaluation in food manufacturing and supply chain.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
