Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the realm of modern commerce, the emergence of sustainable supply chains represents a pivotal shift towards harmonizing economic growth with environmental and social responsibility. Supply chains, once considered mere conduits for products and services, have evolved into dynamic ecosystems with profound implications for sustainability. The significance of this research area is underscored by the urgent global need to address climate change, resource depletion, and social equity. Sustainable supply chains offer a strategic framework to mitigate environmental impacts, enhance ethical sourcing, and foster economic resilience. This vital research area bridges disciplines, uniting academia, industry, and policymaking to chart a course towards a more sustainable and equitable global marketplace.

The aim of this Special Issue is to delve into the complexities of creating environmentally, economically, and socially responsible supply chains. As we navigate an era of unprecedented global challenges, our goal is to explore and showcase the latest research, strategies, and innovations that can transform traditional supply chain practices into sustainability-driven models. This endeavor directly aligns with the scope of the journal Sustainability, which is dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary knowledge on sustainability-related issues. Our Special Issue bridges theory and practice, offering insights that resonate not only with the academic community but also with policymakers and practitioners, contributing to the broader mission of promoting sustainability in all its dimensions.

The proposed themes for this Special Issue include circular economy strategies, which focus on minimizing waste and promoting recycling in supply chains; green logistics and transportation, addressing eco-friendly solutions and carbon reduction; supply chain resilience and risk management, exploring strategies to bolster resilience amid disruptions while adhering to sustainability goals; and digital technologies and sustainability, analyzing the role of tech innovations in enhancing sustainability and traceability within supply chains. These themes collectively offer a well-rounded exploration of critical aspects in sustainable supply chain management, emphasizing waste reduction, environmental responsibility, risk mitigation, and digital integration.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Carbon footprint reduction;
  2. Resilience and risk management;
  3. Waste reduction and recycling strategies;
  4. Circular economy models;
  5. Consumer behavior and sustainable choices.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.
