Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The sustainability challenges facing marine ecosystems have become increasingly pressing, requiring urgent and coordinated efforts for conservation and resource management. This Special Issue on "Sustainability Challenges of Marine Ecosystem Conservation and Resources Management" aims to address these multifaceted challenges by bringing together multidisciplinary research and innovative strategies.

Marine ecosystems are under threat from a variety of factors, including habitat degradation, overfishing, pollution, and climate change. These issues not only impact the biodiversity and health of marine environments, they also affect the economic and social well-being of communities that depend on these resources. Recent research has explored a range of related topics, including habitat restoration, sustainable fisheries management, and the establishment and effectiveness of marine protected areas (MPAs).

The goal of this Special Issue is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the ecological, social, and economic dimensions of marine conservation and resource management. By integrating traditional ecological knowledge with scientific research, we can develop holistic approaches to ensure the long-term health and resilience of marine ecosystems. This Special Issue will cover topics such as the following:

  • Habitat restoration techniques and their effectiveness;
  • Sustainable fisheries management practises;
  • The role and impact of marine protected areas (MPAs);
  • The effects of climate change on marine biodiversity and resources;
  • Socio-economic impacts of marine conservation efforts;
  • Integration of traditional ecological knowledge and scientific research;
  • Policy and governance frameworks for sustainable marine management;
  • Innovative approaches to combat pollution and marine debris;
  • Community-based conservation initiatives;
  • Eutrophication and its impact on marine ecosystems;
  • Marine pollution and its impact on marine ecosystems.

We invite researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to contribute their insights and findings to this Special Issue. By promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration, we aim to propose actionable solutions that can be implemented to safeguard marine ecosystems for future generations.

We look forward to your valuable contributions to advance the sustainability agenda in marine conservation and resource management.

Best regards,

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
