Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to this Special Issue of Sustainability, entitled "Bio-Innovate: Advancing Sustainable Futures through Cutting-Edge Materials Engineering". This collection focuses on the intersection of advanced materials, biotechnology, and environmental consciousness, aiming to propel sustainable material development.

At the nexus of scientific innovation and environmental responsibility, crafting advanced materials sustainably is paramount. Rapid advances in biosynthesis, nanotechnology, and biodegradable polymers offer opportunities to reshape our material landscape. This Issue aims to spotlight the significance of responsibly innovating with materials extracted from nature, contributing to a timely narrative of sustainable biomaterial development.

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for original research articles and reviews advancing our understanding of sustainable material development. Exploring themes such as biosynthesis, smart nanomaterials, and circular bioeconomy, this Issue aligns seamlessly with our journal's broader scope, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and the responsible use of advanced materials.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following topics:

  • Biosynthesis of advanced materials;
  • Smart Nanomaterials for environmental monitoring and remediation;
  • Biodegradable polymers and their role in sustainable material development;
  • Synthetic biology approaches to enhance material properties;
  • Circular bioeconomy: integrating biotechnology and materials for a sustainable future;
  • Sustainable Innovation in advanced materials;
  • Nanotechnology in the circular economy;
  • Materials life cycle of the advanced materials;
  • Sustainability in additive manufacturing of advanced materials;
  • Application of biomass-derived materials;
  • Crafting sustainable biomaterials from natural sources.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
