Detection and Monitoring of Contaminants in SWAF (Soil, Water, Air, Food)

Contaminants refer to substances that are present in the environment in concentrations higher than natural levels, posing a significant threat to ecosystems and human health. These contaminants can originate from various sources such as industrial activities, agricultural practices, and improper waste disposal, leading to pollution and environmental degradation. Contaminants can cause harm to living organisms, making their detection imperative and urgent. The detection of contaminants is crucial as it enables the identification of the harmful substances present in soil, water, air, and food that can have detrimental effects on ecosystems and individuals. Addressing the problem of contaminants requires timely and accurate detection methods to assess the extent of contamination, implement targeted remediation measures, and prevent the further spread of pollutants. By detecting contaminants early on, interventions can be implemented to mitigate their effects, protect human health, and preserve the environment for future generations. The detection of contaminants is essential for safeguarding environmental and human health, addressing pollution challenges, and promoting sustainable development. Enhancing detection methods and promoting awareness about the risks associated with contaminants are critical steps towards protecting ecosystems, ensuring food and water safety, and creating a healthier environment for all.

This Special Issue, entitled “Detection and Monitoring of Contaminants in SWAF (Soil, Water, Air, Food)”, aims to provide a comprehensive platform for researchers and practitioners to discuss advancements in technologies and strategies for the identification and monitoring of contaminants (heavy metals, pesticides, antibiotics, toxins, etc.) in various environmental matrices. This Special Issue seeks to address the pressing global challenges associated with pollution in soil, water, air, and food, focusing on techniques and solutions that can safeguard human health and environmental sustainability. Authors are invited to submit original research papers, reviews, and short communications. The topics of interest may include, but are not limited to, the following:

(1) Novel detection methods for identifying contaminants in SWAF;

(2) Monitoring techniques for tracking contaminant levels and distribution;

(3) Functional nanomaterials for the detection of contamination in SWAF;

(4) Novel strategies for removing contaminants from environmental media;

(5) Case studies and practical applications of contaminant management approaches;

(6) Policy implications and regulatory frameworks related to contamination control.
