Deep neural networks have led to a substantial increase in multifaceted classification tasks by making use of large-scale and diverse annotated datasets. However, diverse optical coherence tomography (OCT) datasets in cardiovascular imaging remain an uphill task. This research focuses on improving the diversity and generalization ability of augmentation architectures while maintaining the baseline classification accuracy for coronary atrial plaques using a novel dual-generator and dynamically fused discriminator conditional generative adversarial network (DGDFGAN). Our method is demonstrated on an augmented OCT dataset with 6900 images. With dual generators, our network provides the diverse outputs for the same input condition, as each generator acts as a regulator for the other. In our model, this mutual regularization enhances the ability of both generators to generalize better across different features. The fusion discriminators use one discriminator for classification purposes, hence avoiding the need for a separate deep architecture. A loss function, including the SSIM loss and FID scores, confirms that perfect synthetic OCT image aliases are created. We optimize our model via the gray wolf optimizer during model training. Furthermore, an inter-comparison and recorded SSID loss of 0.9542 ± 0.008 and a FID score of 7 are suggestive of better diversity and generation characteristics that outperform the performance of leading GAN architectures. We trust that our approach is practically viable and thus assists professionals in informed decision making in clinical settings. Full article

As a critical precision transmission element in numerical control (NC) machines, the linear rolling guide (LRG) suffers from surface wear degradation, which significantly impairs machining accuracy and operational reliability. Despite its importance, effective identification methods for LRG degradation remain limited. In this study, a hybrid approach combining multi-scale fuzzy entropy (MFE) with a gray wolf-optimized random forest (GWO-RF) algorithm was proposed to identify the surface wear state of the LRG. Preload degradation and vibration signals were collected at three surface wear stages throughout the LGR’s service life. The vibration signals were decomposed and reconstructed using complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN), followed by multi-scale fuzzy entropy analysis of the reconstructed signals. After dimensionality reduction via kernel principal component analysis (KPCA), the processed features were fed into the GWO-RF model for classification. In the context of the dual-carbon goals, this study proposes a cooperative game-theoretic optimization strategy to enhance the energy utilization efficiency, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of integrated energy systems (IESs) while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions, improving operational flexibility, and mitigating renewable energy variability. To achieve these goals, an IES framework integrating power-to-gas (P2G) technology and carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities is established to regulate carbon emissions. The system incorporates P2G conversion units and thermal components—specifically, hydrogen fuel cells, electrolyzers, reactors, and electric boilers—aiming to maximize energy conversion efficiency and asset utilization. A cooperative game-theoretic optimization model is developed to facilitate collaboration among multiple stakeholders within the coalition, which employs the Shapley value method to ensure equitable distribution of the cooperative surplus, thereby maximizing collective benefits. The model is solved using an improved gray wolf optimizer (IGWO). The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed strategy effectively coordinates multi-IES scheduling, significantly reduces carbon emissions, facilitates the efficient allocation of cooperation gains, and maximizes overall system utility. Natural gas storage is an effective solution to address the energy supply–demand imbalance, and underground gas storage (UGS) is a primary method for storing natural gas. The overarching goal of this study is to monitor and analyze surface deformation at the Hutubi underground gas storage facility in Xinjiang, China, which is the largest gas storage facility in the country. This research aims to ensure the stable and efficient operation of the facility through long-term monitoring, using remote sensing data and advanced modeling techniques. The study employs the SBAS-InSAR method, leveraging Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data from the TerraSAR and Sentinel-1 sensors to observe displacement time series from 2013 to 2024. The data is processed through wavelet transformation for denoising, followed by the application of a Gray Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm combined with Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) to decompose both surface deformation and gas pressure data. The key focus is the development of a high-precision predictive model using a Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) network, referred to as GWO-VMD-GRU, to accurately predict surface deformation. The results show periodic surface uplift and subsidence at the facility, with a notable net uplift. During the period from August 2013 to March 2015, the maximum uplift rate was 6 mm/year, while from January 2015 to December 2024, it increased to 12 mm/year. The surface deformation correlates with gas injection and extraction periods, indicating periodic variations. The accuracy of the InSAR-derived displacement data is validated through high-precision GNSS data. The GWO-VMD-GRU model demonstrates strong predictive performance with a coefficient of determination (R2) greater than 0.98 for the gas well test points. This study provides a valuable reference for the future safe operation and management of underground gas storage facilities, demonstrating significant contributions to both scientific understanding and practical applications in underground gas storage management. Enhancing quadrotor control to improve both precision and responsiveness is essential for expanding their deployment in complex and dynamic environments. These aerial vehicles are widely used in applications, such as aerial mapping, delivery, disaster response, and defense, where maintaining stability and accuracy is critical, especially under external disturbances like wind. This paper makes three key contributions. First, it develops a nonlinear mathematical model of a quadrotor and designs a backstepping controller for trajectory tracking. Second, the controller’s parameters are optimized using three nature-inspired algorithms: Gray Wolf Optimization (GWO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and the Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA), enabling performance comparisons in terms of their tracking precision and control effort. Third, the robustness of the best-performing optimized controller is evaluated by applying wind disturbances at the simulation level, modeled as external forces acting along the x-axis and summed with the control input. The simulation results highlight the comparative efficiency of the optimization methods and demonstrate the robustness of the selected controller in maintaining stability and accuracy under wind-induced perturbations. The growing demand for reliable and secure vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication in next-generation intelligent transportation systems has accelerated the adoption of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) as a means of enhancing link quality, spectral efficiency, and physical layer security. In this paper, we investigate the problem of secrecy rate maximization in a cooperative dual-RIS-aided V2V communication network, where two cascaded RISs are deployed to collaboratively assist with secure data transmission between mobile vehicular nodes in the presence of eavesdroppers. To address the inherent complexity of time-varying wireless channels, we propose a novel evolutionary transformer-gated recurrent unit (Evo-Transformer-GRU) framework that jointly learns temporal channel patterns and optimizes the RIS reflection coefficients, beam-forming vectors, and cooperative communication strategies. Our model integrates the sequence modeling strength of GRUs with the global attention mechanism of transformer encoders, enabling the efficient representation of time-series channel behavior and long-range dependencies. To further enhance convergence and secrecy performance, we incorporate an improved gray wolf optimizer (IGWO) to adaptively regulate the model’s hyper-parameters and fine-tune the RIS phase shifts, resulting in a more stable and optimized learning process. Extensive simulations demonstrate the superiority of the proposed framework compared to existing baselines, such as transformer, bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT), deep reinforcement learning (DRL), long short-term memory (LSTM), and GRU models. Specifically, our method achieves an up to 32.6% improvement in average secrecy rate and a 28.4% lower convergence time under varying channel conditions and eavesdropper locations. In addition to secrecy rate improvements, the proposed model achieved a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.05, coefficient of determination (R2) score of 0.96, and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of just 0.73%, outperforming all baseline methods in prediction accuracy and robustness. Furthermore, Evo-Transformer-GRU demonstrated rapid convergence within 100 epochs, the lowest variance across multiple runs. Full article

To address the growing demand for industrial software in the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector, and to ensure the stable integration and operation of multi-source heterogeneous industrial software under complex conditions—such as heterogeneous compatibility, component dependencies, and uncertainty disturbances—this study established a comprehensive evaluation index system for service composition and optimal selection (SCOS). The system incorporated key criteria including service time, service cost, service reputation, service delivery quality, and availability. Based on this, a bi-objective SCOS model was established with the goal of maximizing both quality of service (QoS) and availability. To efficiently solve the proposed model, a hybrid enhanced multi-objective Gray Wolf Optimizer (HEMOGWO) was developed. This algorithm integrated Tent chaotic mapping and a Levy flight-enhanced differential evolution (DE) strategy. Extensive experiments were conducted, including performance evaluation on 17 benchmark functions and case studies involving nine industrial software integration scenarios of varying scales. Comparative results against state-of-the-art, multi-objective, optimization algorithms—such as MOGWO, MOEA/D_DE, MOPSO, and NSGA-III—demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed approach. With the deepening adoption of whole-lifecycle management paradigms in aviation equipment, accurate prediction of remaining useful life has emerged as a pivotal technical enabler for ensuring flight safety and optimizing maintenance resource allocation. This study systematically addresses limitations in existing data-driven remaining useful life prediction methodologies through comprehensive optimizations spanning data preprocessing protocols and model architectural enhancements. To mitigate the local optimum entrapment inherent in deep learning hyperparameter optimization, an improved Gray Wolf Optimizer incorporating dynamic perturbation factors is proposed. This algorithm is subsequently deployed to optimize hyperparameters within the redesigned predictive architecture. Comparative analyses reveal that the proposed framework achieves superior prediction accuracy compared to mainstream optimization-driven models and state-of-the-art approaches. The results substantiate the capability of dynamic perturbation strategies to enhance both hyperparameter optimization quality and prediction stability, ultimately delivering an efficient solution for aero-engine remaining useful life estimation. The experiments on the C-MAPSS Dataset verify the effectiveness of these improvements. Full article

Owing to its high energy efficiency, regenerative capability, and fast dynamic response, the Electromagnetic Energy-Feeding Shock Absorber has found widespread application in automotive suspension control systems. To further improve thrust control precision, this study presents a sliding mode thrust controller designed using an improved Gray Wolf Optimization algorithm. Firstly, an improved exponential reaching law is adopted, where a saturation function replaces the traditional sign function to enhance system tracking accuracy and stability. Meanwhile, a position update strategy from the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is integrated into the gray wolf optimizer (GWO) to improve the global search ability and the balance of local exploitation. Secondly, the improved GWO is combined with sliding mode control to achieve online optimization of controller parameters, ensuring system robustness while suppressing chattering. Finally, comparative analyses and simulation validations are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Simulation results show that, under step input conditions, the improved GWO reduces the rise time from 0.0034 s to 0.002 s and the steady-state error from 0.4 N to 0.12 N. Under sinusoidal input, the average error is reduced from 0.26 N to 0.12 N. Under noise disturbance, the average deviation is reduced from 2.77 N to 2.14 N. These results demonstrate that the improved GWO not only provides excellent trajectory tracking and control accuracy but also exhibits strong robustness under varying operating conditions and random white noise disturbances. Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a critical indicator of soil health and carbon sequestration potential. Accurate, efficient, and scalable SOC estimation is essential for sustainable orchard management and climate-resilient agriculture. However, traditional visible–near-infrared (Vis–NIR) spectroscopy often suffers from limited chemical specificity and weak adaptability in heterogeneous soil environments. To overcome these limitations, this study develops a five-stage modeling framework that systematically integrates Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy with hybrid machine learning techniques for non-destructive SOC prediction in citrus orchard soils. The proposed framework includes (1) FTIR spectral acquisition; (2) a comparative evaluation of nine spectral preprocessing techniques; (3) dimensionality reduction via three representative feature selection algorithms, namely the Successive Projections Algorithm (SPA), Competitive Adaptive Reweighted Sampling (CARS), and Principal Component Analysis (PCA); (4) regression modeling using six machine learning algorithms, namely the Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Gray Wolf Optimized SVR (SVR-GWO), Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR), Principal Component Regression (PCR), and the Back-propagation Neural Network (BPNN); and (5) comprehensive performance assessments and the identification of the optimal modeling pathway. The results showed that second-derivative (SD) preprocessing significantly enhanced the spectral signal-to-noise ratio. Among feature selection methods, the SPA reduced over 300 spectral bands to 10 informative wavelengths, enabling efficient modeling with minimal information loss. The SD + SPA + RF pipeline achieved the highest prediction performance (R2 = 0.84, RMSE = 4.67 g/kg, and RPD = 2.51), outperforming the PLSR and BPNN models. This study presents a reproducible and scalable FTIR-based modeling strategy for SOC estimation in orchard soils. Its adaptive preprocessing, effective variable selection, and ensemble learning integration offer a robust solution for real-time, cost-effective, and transferable carbon monitoring, advancing precision soil sensing in orchard ecosystems. Location-based services have important economic and social values. The positioning accuracy and cost have a crucial impact on the quality, promotion, and market competitiveness of location services. Dead reckoning can provide accurate location information in a short time. However, it suffers from motion pattern diversity and cumulative error. To address these issues, we propose a PCA-GWO-KELM optimization gait recognition indoor fusion localization method. In this method, 30-dimensional motion features for different motion patterns are extracted from inertial measurement units. Then, constructing PCA-GWO-KELM optimization gait recognition algorithms to obtain important features, the model parameters of the kernel-limit learning machine are optimized by the gray wolf optimization algorithm. Meanwhile, adaptive upper thresholds and adaptive dynamic time thresholds are constructed to void pseudo peaks and valleys. Finally, fusion localization is achieved by combining with acoustic localization. Comprehensive experiments have been conducted using different devices in two different scenarios. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method can effectively recognize motion patterns and mitigate cumulative error. It achieves higher localization performance and universality than state-of-the-art methods. Full article

Dueto uncertainties in real-world production, dynamic factors have become increasingly critical in the research of distributed flexible job shop scheduling problems. Effectively responding to dynamic events can significantly enhance the adaptability and quality of scheduling solutions, thereby improving the resilience of manufacturing systems. This study addresses the dynamic distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem, which involves random job arrivals and machine breakdowns, and proposes an effective discrete improved gray wolf optimization (DIGWO) algorithm-based predictive–reactive method. The first contribution of our work lies in its dynamic scheduling strategy: a periodic- and event-driven approach is used to capture the dynamic nature of the problem, and a static scheduling window is constructed based on updated factory and workshop statuses to convert dynamic scheduling into static scheduling at each rescheduling point. Second, a mathematical model of multi-objective distributed flexible job shop scheduling (MODDFJSP) is established, optimizing makespan, tardiness, maximal factory load, and stability. The novelty of the model is that it is capable of optimizing both production efficiency and operational stability in the workshop. Third, by designing an efficacious initialization mechanism, prey search, and an external archive, the DIGWO algorithm is developed to solve conflicting objectives and search for a set of trade-off solutions. Experimental results in a simulated dynamic distributed flexible job shop demonstrate that DIGWO outperforms three well-known algorithms (NSGA-II, SPEA2, and MOEA/D). The proposed method also surpasses completely reactive scheduling approaches based on rule combinations. This study provides a reference for distributed manufacturing systems facing random job arrivals and machine breakdowns. Full article

The rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and the increasing use of photovoltaic (PV) generation have introduced new operational challenges for unbalanced power distribution systems. These include elevated power losses, voltage imbalances, and adverse environmental impacts. This study proposed a hybrid objective optimization framework to address these issues by minimizing real and reactive power losses, voltage deviations, voltage imbalance indexes, and CO2 emissions. Nineteen simulation cases were analyzed under various configurations incorporating EV integration, PV deployment, reactive power compensation, and zonal control strategies. An improved gray wolf optimizer (IGWO) was employed to determine optimal placements and control settings. Among all cases, Case 16 yielded the lowest objective function value, representing the most effective trade-off between technical performance, voltage stability, and sustainability. The optimized configuration significantly improved the voltage balance, reduced system losses, and maintained the average voltage within acceptable limits. Additionally, all optimized scenarios achieved meaningful reductions in CO2 emissions compared to the base case. The results were validated with an objective function Fbest as a reliable composite performance index and demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated zone-based optimization. This approach provides practical insights for future smart grid planning under dynamic, renewable, rich, and EV-dominated operating conditions. Full article

Magnetic soft continuum robots (MSCRs) have broad application advantages in vascular intervention; however, current MSCRs still face challenges in navigating the narrower and tortuous structure of the cerebral vasculature. To address this challenge, we propose a tapered MSCR (T-MSCR), which is designed to facilitate smooth navigation through microvascular structures via its miniature tip. Specifically, to optimize its bending ability, we combine the Gray Wolf Optimizer (GWO) with the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory and introduce a Discrete GWO (DGWO) approach to optimize the distribution of magnetic particles within the T-MSCR. We then demonstrate the optimization process of the T-MSCR’s bending ability, comparing and analyzing its deflection angle and deformation characteristics, highlighting its capability to enter microvasculars. Furthermore, we demonstrate the magnetic steering and path selection capabilities of T-MSCR in a two-dimensional vascular model and its navigation performance in real-scale human vascular models. Finally, biocompatibility tests confirm that T-MSCR exhibits no toxicity to human cells, thereby laying a solid foundation for its clinical application. The proposed T-MSCR design and optimization are expected to provide a more efficient and feasible solution for future cerebrovascular interventions. Full article

Optimizing vehicle placement in unmarked parking areas is essential for maximizing space efficiency, particularly in irregular and high-demand urban environments. This study investigates the optimal allocation of additional vehicles in spaces left unoccupied around parked cars by comparing seven heuristic optimization algorithms: Particle Swarm Optimization, Artificial Bee Colony, Gray Wolf Optimizer, Harris Hawks Optimizer, Phasor Particle Swarm Optimization, Multi-Population Based Differential Evolution, and the Colony-Based Search Algorithm. The experiments were conducted in two different parking areas, one designed for parallel parking and the other for perpendicular parking, under three scenarios allowing different levels of cars’ rotational flexibility. The results indicate that MDE consistently outperforms other methods in both speed and robustness, achieving the highest vehicle capacity. These findings provide a foundation for smart parking systems, enabling real-time optimization, reduced congestion, and improved urban mobility. Full article
