Children are often underserved by adult-oriented oral medicines, leading to off-label use and dosage-form manipulation that may compromise dosing accuracy. This review summarises recent advances in paediatric orodispersible tablets (ODTs), focusing on manufacturing technologies, superdisintegrants, taste masking, and in vitro disintegration testing. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidance and a protocol registered with the International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols (registration number INPLASY2025110022), we searched PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, Scopus, and Google Scholar for experimental studies on paediatric-relevant ODT formulation and evaluation. Two reviewers screened studies and extracted data on manufacturing methods, excipients, disintegration/dissolution testing, and key outcomes. Risk of bias was assessed using a six-domain framework. Overall, 65 studies met the inclusion criteria for this review. Direct compression was the dominant method, with freeze-drying, sublimation, spray-drying, nanoparticle-in-tablet systems, and semi-solid extrusion/3D printing also reported. Crospovidone, croscarmellose sodium, and sodium starch glycolate were the most common superdisintegrants, while natural and co-processed disintegrants showed promise as cost-effective alternatives. Disintegration was usually assessed using pharmacopoeial methods, with some modified set-ups to better simulate oral conditions. Paediatric ODT development is advancing rapidly. Broader translation requires harmonised disintegration testing, age-stratified acceptability reporting, and GMP-ready workflows, alongside benchmarking of superdisintegrants and attention to dose flexibility, packaging, and affordability. This essay explores the posthumanist reconfiguration of the body, contrasting it with the humanist paradigm rooted in somatic appropriation and compensatory technology. While the humanist model views the body as incomplete and in need of external support, the posthumanist approach proposes an ontology of Being-a-Body, grounded in virtuality, relationality, and ecological situatedness. Central to this view is the concept of ontopoiesis—the body’s becoming through continuous relational activity. The essay emphasizes a shift from exemption to exuberance: technology no longer compensates for bodily deficiency but expands its virtual potential. This technopoietic process entails a reorganization of somatic structures, opening the body to new possibilities of actualization. The resulting condition—characterized by instability, hybridity, and transformation—defines a “technological sublime,” where the body is decentralized from its anthropocentric core and immersed in a fluid network of meaning. This posthumanist vision challenges essentialist assumptions, offering a dynamic and open-ended understanding of corporeality in the age of technogenesis. Full article

Ice nucleation temperatures and associated ice growth rates are critical parameters in defining the initial ice morphology template, which governs dry layer resistance during sublimation and therefore impacts primary drying kinetics and overall process time. In this study, we developed a through-vial impedance spectroscopy (TVIS) method to determine both ice nucleation temperature and average ice growth rate, from which future estimation of average ice crystal size may be possible. Whereas previous TVIS applications were limited to solutions containing simple, uncharged solutes such as sugars, our adapted approach enables the analysis of conductive solutions (5% sucrose with 0%, 0.26%, and 0.55% NaCl), covering osmolarities below and above isotonicity. We established that the real part capacitance at low and high frequencies—either side of the dielectric relaxation of ice—provides the following: (i) a temperature-sensitive parameter for detecting the onset of ice formation, and (ii) a temperature-insensitive parameter for determining the end of the ice growth phase (unaffected by temperature changes in the frozen solution). This expanded capability demonstrates the potential of TVIS as a process analytical technology (PAT) for non-invasive, in situ monitoring of freezing dynamics in pharmaceutical freeze-drying. Transition-metal oxides (TMOs) possess pronounced optoelectronic properties and are widely exploited in photovoltaics and photocatalysis. Here, we introduce a hot wire oxidation sublimation deposition (HWOSD) that directly converts elemental Mo and W into amorphous MoOx and WOx films on various substrates. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy reveal uniform thickness and conformal coverage over textured and planar surfaces. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicates high oxygen contents with stoichiometric ratios of 2.94 (MoOx) and 2.91 (WOx). Optical measurements show transmittances > 94% across 400–1200 nm, yielding optical band gaps of 1.86 eV (MoOx) and 2.67 eV (WOx). The conductivities of MoOx and WOx were 2.58 × 10−6 S cm−1 and 5.14 × 10−7 S cm−1 at room temperature, and the TMO/Si surface potential differences are 200 mV and 114 mV, respectively. Minority-carrier-lifetime measurements indicate that MoOx films confer an additional passivation benefit to the i a-Si:H/c-Si/i a-Si:H stack. Annealing of MoOx and WOx realized their phase transition from an amorphous state to a polycrystalline state, with changes in their optical transmittance in the visible light region. Investigation of the photovoltaic performances of MoOx and WOx as HTLs deposited by HWOSD demonstrates their excellent electronic functionality in optoelectronics. These results establish HWOSD as a scalable, low-temperature method to fabricate high-quality TMO films and expand their potential in advanced optoelectronic devices. Full article

Inorganic halide perovskites have garnered significant attention as promising candidates for photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications, owing to their enhanced thermal and chemical stability relative to hybrid perovskite materials. This review synthesizes recent progress in vapor-phase deposition methodologies, such as co-evaporation, close space sublimation (CSS), continuous flash sublimation (CFS), and chemical vapor deposition (CVD), which enable the precise modulation of film composition and morphology. Advances in material systems, including the stabilization of CsPbI2Br, the introduction of tin-doped phases, and the investigation of lead-free double perovskites like Cs2AgSbI6 and Cs2AgBiCl6, are critically evaluated with respect to their impact on device performance. The incorporation of these materials into photovoltaic devices and tandem configurations is explored, with particular emphasis on improvements in power conversion efficiency and operational durability. Furthermore, interface engineering approaches tailored to vacuum-deposited films—such as defect passivation and energy-level alignment—are examined in detail. The potential for scalable manufacturing is assessed through simulation analyses, throughput modeling, and pilot-scale demonstrations, underscoring the feasibility of industrial-scale production. By offering a comprehensive overview of these advancements, this review provides valuable perspectives on the current landscape and prospective trajectories of vapor-deposited inorganic perovskite technologies. Niobium, with its unique properties, plays a key role in high-tech industries, but its recovery from secondary sources remains poorly studied. The kinetics of niobium leaching from niobium-containing middlings obtained via the water treatment of dust chamber sublimations of titanium chlorinators is considered in this study. The leaching process was conducted using a fluoride–sulphuric acid solution. The experiments were performed at 25–90 °C in agitation mode. Kinetic data were analysed using compression-core and mixed-control models, which made it possible to establish the limiting stages of the process. A mixed mechanism, including a chemical reaction on the surface and diffusion through a layer of products with an activation energy of 30.05 kJ/mol, was established. The niobium recovery degree increased from 35.25 to 93.5% as the temperature increased, highlighting its effect on the process. The insoluble residue, rich in titanium, and the liquid phase with niobium and zirconium have the potential for further processing. The results provide the basis to optimise technologies intended to recover niobium from man-made raw materials, contributing to an increase in resource efficiency. Full article

Millions of tons of slag and clinker can be found in the dumps of enterprises across the Republic of Kazakhstan. The goal of this project is to create a technology that conserves energy in waste treatment. The novelty of the work is the discovery of a new phenomenon, which shows that in the melt layer, there are two reactions opposite in direction and intensity: slow reactions of the decomposition of complex components into simple molecules and rapid responses of the formation of complex components from simple molecules. The dominance of one of the two reactions affects the process’s fuel consumption. Using this phenomenon, a melting reactor was created, which will reduce specific fuel consumption by 3–4 times compared to a Waelz kiln. It is shown that using a new method of CO2 decarbonization by zinc, it is possible to ensure the production of zinc sublimates and cast stone products and the full neutralization of CO2. The lowest market potential only for Achisai dump clinker would be around USD 125,600,000 if the cost of commercial clinker sublimates is USD 800/t. The expected net profit would be USD 4,466,039/y. Polymers with micro- and mesoporous structure are promising as materials for gas storage and separation, encapsulating agents for controlled drug release, carriers for catalysts and sensors, precursors of nanostructured carbon materials, carriers for biomolecular immobilization and cellular scaffolds, as materials with a low dielectric constant, filtering/separating membranes, proton exchange membranes, templates for replicating structures, and as electrode materials for energy storage. Sol–gel technologies, track etching, and template synthesis are used for their production, including in micelles of surfactants and microemulsions and sublimation drying. The listed methods make it possible to obtain pores with variable shapes and sizes of 5–50 nm and achieve a narrow pore size distribution. However, all these methods are technologically multi-stage and require the use of consumables. This paper presents a review of the use of macromolecular architecture in the synthesis of micro- and mesoporous polymers with extremely high surface area and hierarchical porous polymers. The synthesis of porous polymer frameworks with individual functional capabilities, the required chemical structure, and pore surface sizes is based on the unique possibilities of developing the architecture of the polymer matrix. Background: The Internet of Things (IoT) has improved many aspects that have impacted the industry and the people’s daily lives. To begin with, the IoT allows communication to be made across a wide range of devices, from household appliances to industrial machinery. This connectivity allows for a better integration of the pervasive computing, making devices “smart” and capable of interacting with each other and with the corresponding users in a sublime way. However, the widespread adoption of IoT devices has introduced some security challenges, because these devices usually run in environments that have limited resources. As IoT technology becomes more integrated into critical infrastructure and daily life, the need for stronger security measures will increase. These devices are exposed to a variety of cyber-attacks. This literature review synthesizes the current research of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to improve IoT security. This review addresses key research questions, including: (1) What are the primary challenges and threats that IoT devices face?; (2) How can AI be used to improve IoT security?; (3) What AI techniques are currently being used for this purpose?; and (4) How does applying AI to IoT security differ from traditional methods? Methods: We included a total of 33 peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 and 2024, specifically in journal and conference papers written in English. Studies irrelevant to the use of AI for IoT security, duplicate studies, and articles without full-text access were excluded. The literature search was conducted using scientific databases, including MDPI, ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore, and SpringerLink. Results were synthesized through a narrative synthesis approach, with the help of the Parsifal tool to organize and visualize key themes and trends. Results: We focus on the use of machine learning, deep learning, and federated learning, which are used for anomaly detection to identify and mitigate the security threats inherent to these devices. AI-driven technologies offer promising solutions for attack detection and predictive analysis, reducing the need for human intervention more significantly. This review acknowledges limitations such as the rapidly evolving nature of IoT technologies, the early-stage development or proprietary nature of many AI techniques, the variable performance of AI models in real-world applications, and potential biases in the search and selection of articles. The risk of bias in this systematic review is moderate. While the study selection and data collection processes are robust, the reliance on narrative synthesis and the limited exploration of potential biases in the selection process introduce some risk. Transparency in funding and conflict of interest reporting reduces bias in those areas. Discussion: The effectiveness of these AI-based approaches can vary depending on the performance of the model and the computational efficiency. In this article, we provide a comprehensive overview of existing AI models applied to IoT security, including machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and hybrid approaches. We also examine their role in enhancing the detection accuracy. Despite all the advances, challenges still remain in terms of data privacy and the scalability of AI solutions in IoT security. Conclusion: This review provides a comprehensive overview of ML applications to enhance IoT security. We also discuss and outline future directions, emphasizing the need for collaboration between interested parties and ongoing innovation to address the evolving threat landscape in IoT security. This paper presents the results of laboratory studies for the distillation of mercury from depleted coal sorbents produced in gold recovery factories using CIP technology. The mercury content in these materials is more than 1%. The developed technology was tested in a large-scale laboratory on a pilot vacuum sublimation electric furnace with the rheological movement of dispersed material. The use of this equipment makes it possible to demercurize various materials with fairly high moisture (up to 20%). It eliminates the use of an additional technological operation—drying the material in a vacuum drying oven. It has been shown that a high degree of mercury distillation is achieved (more than 99.8%) at 350–400 °C in the reaction space and residual pressure in the system of less than 1.33 kPa, with residual mercury content in the material of less than 0.001% (10 mg/kg), which complies with the European environmental standards. Mercury-free coal sorbents are sent for combustion for the additional extraction of precious metal composites. The proposed vacuum technology is characterized by its environmental safety because the process is performed in sealed equipment, eliminating toxic emissions of mercury vapor into the atmosphere. The proposed vacuum technology equipment is characterized by reliability and ease of use. Full article

Ligustrazine (TMP) is the main active ingredient extracted from Rhizoma Chuanxiong, which is used in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, with the drawback of being unstable and readily sublimated. Cocrystal technology is an effective method to improve the stability of TMP. Three benzoic acid compounds including P-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), 3-Aminobenzoic acid (MABA), and 3,5-Dinitrobenzoic acid (DNBA) were chosen for co-crystallization with TMP. Three novel cocrystals were obtained, including TMP-PABA (1:2), TMP-MABA (1.5:1), and TMP-DNBA (0.5:1). Hygroscopicity was characterized by the dynamic vapor sorption (DVS) method. Three cocrystals significantly improved the hygroscopicity stability, and the mass change in TMP decreased from 25% to 1.64% (TMP-PABA), 0.12% (TMP-MABA), and 0.03% (TMP-DNBA) at 90% relative humidity. The melting points of the three cocrystals were all higher than TMP, among which the TMP-DNBA cocrystal had the highest melting point and showed the best stability in reducing hygroscopicity. Crystal structure analysis shows that the mesh-like structure formed by the O-H⋯N hydrogen bond in the TMP-DNBA cocrystal was the reason for improving the stability of TMP. Full article

After the Industrial Revolution, new technologies and architectural forms gradually replaced China’s wooden construction system, which had lasted for thousands of years. The architectural narrative also turned a new page. As pieces of architectural and cultural heritage and as the residence of “gods”, wooden Buddhist temples carry the indelible imprints of history and religion and have become a healing place or spiritual home for people living in urban areas. In order to preserve the local cultural context and explore the creation of a spiritual “sacred place”, this study traces the spiritual and cultural value of Xi’an’s wooden Buddhist temple through ethnographic qualitative methods of text analysis, observation and interviews. The case study examines the metaphorical symbolism of the architecture’s “sense of place” and religion in terms of architectural structure and components, and the advantages of creating a “sacred place” are examined based on the characteristics of wooden materials. The results show that the design elements of wooden Buddhist temples connect cultural identity and collective memory, which are inseparable from religion, and because of the material properties of wood, they sublimate the sacred atmosphere of religion. Moreover, identifying the “sense of place” and the atmosphere of sacred spaces through the structure, components, and material characteristics of wooden temple architecture offers a new perspective that focuses on architectural emotions and creates a new topic of “sacred places”. Such temples have the potential to enhance human spiritual health and well-being. Full article

Measuring the size distribution and temperature of high-temperature dispersed particles, particularly in-flame soot, holds paramount importance across various industries. Laser-induced incandescence (LII) stands out as a potent non-contact diagnostic technology for in-flame soot, although its effectiveness is hindered by uncertainties associated with pre-determined thermal properties. To tackle this challenge, our study proposes a multi-parameter inversion strategy—simultaneous inversion of particle size distribution, thermal accommodation coefficient, and initial temperature of in-flame soot aggregates using time-resolved LII signals. Analyzing the responses of different heat transfer sub-models to temperature rise demonstrates the necessity of incorporating sublimation and thermionic emission for accurately reproducing LII signals of high-temperature dispersed particles. Consequently, we selected a particular LII model for the multi-parameter inversion strategy. Our research reveals that LII-based particle sizing is sensitive to biases in the initial temperature of particles (equivalent to the flame temperature), underscoring the need for the proposed multi-parameter inversion strategy. Numerical results obtained at two typical flame temperatures, 1100 K and 1700 K, illustrate that selecting an appropriate laser fluence enables the simultaneous inversion of particle size distribution, thermal accommodation coefficient, and initial particle temperatures of soot aggregates with high accuracy and confidence using the LII technique. The behavior of multilevel atomic ensembles (e.g., alkali-metal atoms) can be influenced significantly by the intensity of a driving field (or controlling/coupling field). The phase coherence between two transition pathways driven by a probe light and a driving field can lead to the effect known as electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). In EIT, the probe light can pass through a three-level alkali-metal atomic vapor without absorption or reflection when two coherent resonances (transition pathways driven by the driving and probe fields) are present and the linewidths of the transparency windows are sufficiently narrow. The optical characteristics of atomic systems can also be affected by the Doppler broadening of the absorption profile in a spectroscope. Our analysis indicates that both broadenings (related to the transitions excited by the driving and probe fields) can be expanded, leading to an increase in the transmittance and reflectance broadenings when a coupling field with adaptive strength is applied; the corresponding temperature would, thus, be implemented and readable. We show that the most suitable preparation for temperature sensing via an EIT vapor is to provide 80 times the spontaneous decay rate (SDR) of the excited atomic levels. This configuration results in reflectance and transmittance values that range between zero and one and cover a temperature range of 0 K to 600 K. As an example, we demonstrate the integration of specialized coating technologies with EIT ensembles for temperature sensing in the range of dozens of kelvins at and above room temperature. A key advantage of this temperature-sensing system is its ability to use adaptive resonant visible light as the probe field. This novel approach may find applications in providing unprecedented levels of precision and control in temperature sensing for coating processes and in the design of other photonic or optical devices. It can also be used to determine the temperature-dependent behavior of the specific heat of alkali-metal solids and gases (including the latent heats of vaporization or sublimation of alkali-metal solids) through the reflection and transmission spectra of the vaporized EIT atomic vapors. The primary devices for extracting volatile components from dispersed materials in a vacuum are devices with the movement of raw materials by directed vibrations. During the analysis of the operation of such installations, some shortcomings were identified, due to the supply of heat flow to the processed raw material and the requirements for the choice of structural materials. In this article, the authors tested a heating method and a design of a sublimator with the supply of heat flow to the dispersed material by radiation from the heater. The sublimation zone is made in the form of a shaft formed by simple-shaped plates, the design and material of which involve the use of refractory and ceramic materials that are inert with respect to an aggressive vaporous sulfide medium. The movement of bulk material through the volume of the sublimator occurs due to rheological properties: sliding along inclined plates. Technological tests on the sublimation of arsenic sulfides from gravity and flotation composite concentrates of the Bakyrchik deposit (Kazakhstan) have shown the possibility of a high degree of sublimation of arsenic (more than 96–99%) while preserving precious metal composites in the sublimation residue and stable operation of equipment. Sublimation residues containing 0.14–0.30% As can be processed by known methods. The possibility of sufficiently complete removal of arsenic and its compounds from composite concentrates at a reduced pressure with the removal of the latter in the most environmentally friendly sulfide form has been established.
