Review on ‘Vertical Structures Associated with Orographic Precipitation during Warm Season in the Sichuan Basin and Its Surrounding Areas at Different Altitudes from 8-year GPM DPR Observations’ by Shen et al.,

This paper provides an investigation on vertical structures of key parameters related with precipitation information over Sichuan basin and its surrounding areas based on GPM, and discusses on the physical mechanisms on the formation of different sizes of rain particles. The key results and conclusions are important and helpful in understanding the cloud microphysical processes in mountainous region. Generally, this paper is well written, I only have some minor points as following,

1, This paper only gives a general description on the quality of GPM data based on literature check, however, the main focusing areas of these literatures are different from current work. Thus, I expect to see the performances of GPM on the study region to verify the robust and reliability of the main conclusions of current work. This can be done either by literatures check or by statistical evaluation using ground-based observations. Because there are two aspects may influence the quality of GPM observation, 1), the complex terrain, 2), the heavy precipitation falls over the eastern part of the study region.

2, How does GPM identify strigiform precipitation and convective precipitation? I suggest to provide a detailed description on this. This is a very important information for this work. Additionally, such methods could also be used in identifying the precipitation types in numerical models or reanalysis data.

3, I suggest to provide a spatial distribution figure on the Number of convective pixels and stratiform rainy pixels to show a detailed spatial pattern of two types of precipitation.

4, Some grammar or typing errors:
