Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper describes preparation of yttrium-modified MCM-22 supported PdOx nanocrystal catalysts and its application for catalytic oxidation of toluene. The catalytic materials were characterized by XRD, SEM, HRTEM, EDS and XPS. Notably, catalysts with an appropriate yttrium content greatly improved the catalytic activity of 0.2%Pd/MCM-22. The investigation was carefully achieved, and the paper is well written. I would recommend publication of this manuscript in catalysts.

Author Response

The investigation was carefully achieved, and the paper is well written. I would recommend publication of this manuscript in catalysts.

Response to Reviewer comment: We would like to extend our appreciation to you for carefully reviewing our paper. We are glad that you suggest our paper to be accepted for publication.

Reviewer 2 Report

This manuscript of the correct length and scope for Catalysts and I recommend publication after the following minor changes have been addressed.

line 126 and 132; delete underlining of 'palladium' and 'X-ray sources'.

line 159; strictly 'water vapor' is not a 'VOC'; please re-word.

Reference 8. I believe the abbrev. is "J. Taiwan Inst. Chem. Eng.'

fin.

Author Response

1. line 126 and 132; delete underlining of 'palladium' and 'X-ray sources '.

Response to Reviewer comment No. 1: According to the comment, 'palladium' and 'X-ray sources ' have been deleted.

2. line 159; strictly 'water vapor' is not a 'VOC'; please re-word.

Response to Reviewer comment No. 2: According to the comment, 'VOC' has been replaced.

3. Reference 8. I believe the abbrev. is "J. Taiwan Inst. Chem. Eng.' fin.

Response to Reviewer comment No. 3: According to the comment, Reference 8 has been corrected.

Reviewer 3 Report

The manuscript by Zuo et al describes the optimiztion of Pd catalyst on a solid support and its use for oxidizing toluene. The authors present a well designed optimization protocoll which takes into condiseration all aspects of this form of catalysis. Their finding that a cartain content of Yttrium on the zeolite support significantly increases the efficiency of the oxidation is notable. The paper is well written and should be published as it is. However, the authors are requested to make sure that all abbreviations are explained when they appear in the text for the first time (for instance "HC" on line 36 or "MCM" and "MWW" on line 39). Likewise, the authors might want to avoid misleading adjectives like for example the word "harmless" in line 29 (is CO2 really "harmless"?).

Author Response

1. However, the authors are requested to make sure that all abbreviations are explained when they appear in the text for the first time (for instance "HC" on line 36 or "MCM" and "MWW" on line 39).

Response to Reviewer comment No. 1: We appreciate the reviewer’ suggestions very much. All abbreviations have been explained when they appeared in the text for the first time.

2.Likewise, the authors might want to avoid misleading adjectives like for example the word "harmless" in line 29 (is CO2 really "harmless"?).

Response to Reviewer comment No. 2: According to the comment, misleading adjectives have been deleted.
