Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The reviewed manuscript is interesting, very well written, the number of examples is correct, and I also like the quality of graphic content.

The corrections made in revision clarified certain issues, in particular the purpose and scope of the work.

I recommend to accept the paper for publication.

Reviewer 2 Report

Thank you for the corrections, no comments

Reviewer 3 Report

This manuscript is about the analysis of germination data with different statistical approaches. This is a very comprehensive review and provides a very good summary of the approaches to analyze germination data. I recommend it to be accepted in the current form.

This manuscript is a resubmission of an earlier submission. The following is a list of the peer review reports and author responses from that submission.

Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Review of the manuscript entitled Basic Features of the Analysis of Germination Data with Generalized Linear Mixed Models.

I found the article interesting as it refers an important problem of theoretical and practical aspects of GzLMMs.
This is a very well written article, in my opinion it is difficult to find any weak points of this work. The structure of the reviewed paper corresponds with the standards that apply to original research papers.
Overall, the manuscript is well written and easy to follow, but I’m not a linguist so I don’t have the competence to evaluate the correctness of the language in terms of English grammar and spelling.

Specific comments
The title is adequate to the content of the paper, and is correctly formulated.
The abstract The abstract provides exhaustive information on the content of the paper
Introduction and “Results” The research goals were given clearly and supported with the most recent knowledge on the subject. The Results are described clearly and comprehensively as well as supported with adequate source material in the form of table and figures. It is the evidence of the very good orientation in the problem discussed in the paper.
The cited literature is relevant and creatively incorporated into the text. In the paper the authors cite the most important works by other researchers dealing with a similar problem.

The figures and tables are adequately described, properly constructed, clear, not overloaded with data, However Figure 1and Figure 2 in current version it are unclear. I suggest some changes. The colours in legends and in figures are different.

Reviewer 2 Report

This manuscript presents some practical aspects of generalized linear mixed models with focusses on germination data analysis. The author describe the application of GzLMMs to four real datasets.   In my opinion, of the way that the paper is presented, it does not have any novelty from the mathematical/statistical or data analysis viewpoint. In page 1, line 69, the author write ``... the basic theoretical and practical aspects of GzLMMs are presented ...''. But, the mathematical theoretical aspects were not disscussed. In addition, the author does not present a satisfactory discussion on the estimation procedure. The author only cite that the analysis were performed in software SAS.   The Introduction section is very long and does not point out the main contribution of the paper. Sinde the statistical methods described are very well known from the literature, the article may being of interest only to researchers in the agricultural area which are not familiar with statistical methods.   The paper is very long. The author is encouraged to reduce the paper, maintaining only the main results.   In conclusion, I do not think that this paper is a contribution of interest to the statistical application literature.

Reviewer 3 Report

The reviewed manuscript is interesting, very well written, the number of examples is correct, and I also like the quality of graphic content. In my opinion, this text requires only editorial and linguistic finishing touch before publication.
