12–15 June 2018, Faro, Portugal
7th Iberian Congress of Ichthyology (SIBIC – 2018)

The VII Iberian Congress of Ichthyology (SIBIC2018) is organized by the Centre for Marine Sciences (CCMAR) and the University of Algarve on behalf of the Iberian Society for Ichthyology and aims to bring together scientists and stakeholders to uphold the ecological relevance of fish and to promote the transfer of multidisciplinary knowledge across freshwater and marine realms.

The upcoming edition is indeed a comprehensible conference, which encompasses all aspects of fish biology, habitat conservation or resource management, from riverine environments to the open waters of the planet’s oceans. Hence the moto “Where rivers meet the oceans”.

Despite its geographical denomination, SIBIC2018 reaches outside Iberia. Spain and Portugal extend from the Mediterranean to the mid of the Atlantic. Oceans are global and riverine issues can be translated almost everywhere. Therefore, we extend this invitation to all that would like to attend or present their research regardless of geographical origin or location.

The panel of invited plenary speakers include eminent scientists from Europe and the US and several thematic sessions will run in parallel over three days of scientific abundance. The main topics of the conference span across Systematics, Phylogeography and Evolution, Physiology and Toxicology, Fish Behavior and Welfare, Species and Habitat Connectivity and Conservation, Challenges of Invasive species and Climate Change, Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, Fish models and Biotechnology, and Science awareness and Policy.

We hope that the scientific program, the networking opportunities and the venue amenities are appealing and we look forward to see you. Come and shoal with us!
