Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Growing awareness of polluted soil and water resources has led to the search for novel and green methods that are cost-effective and have few side effects, to clean up and restore both water and land environments. Phytoremediation is multidisciplinary in nature; therefore, researchers from different backgrounds are sought who have expertise and the capacity for achievement in this area, from lab to field scale.

This Special Issue seeks to cover a topic related to silicon and forests. Biotic and abiotic stresses have a major influencing on forest productivity, and there is a need to manage these factors to protect and enhance the forest biomass. In this context, silicon (Si), a non-essential but beneficial element to plants, has been known for its potential effects in alleviating various biotic and abiotic stresses. However, being a non-Si accumulator, forest vegetation has been excluded from research, and little work devoted to Si uptakes by trees has been undertaken.

Consequently, in addition to ‘’Phytoremediation of Contaminated Soil and Water in Forestry’’, this Special Issue seeks to better understand Si pathways in soil–tree systems and to provide additional insight into their probable appreciable roles in forests.
